Reflection

Mrs Josie Crisara OAM

We hope our students, staff and families had a good and restful semester break.  With batteries recharged, we are now ready to embark on an exciting and very busy Term 3.

We are pleased to announce some changes in our Aitken College Board, the body that governs and guides the College’s strategic direction whilst the College executive manages the day-to-day navigation of the school.  Our Annual General Meeting was held on 27 May 2024 and at the AGM our new Chair, Mrs Vicki Steer, was appointed, with Ms Marianne Stillwell stepping in as Deputy Chair and Mr Cameron Moroney as Treasurer.  Our very talented Board and Committee members play a significant role in the school’s governance, ensuring its ongoing development and growth within the framework of our vision, mission, aims and values. We thank them for their time and commitment to the school. You can read more about each of our talented board members and the skills they bring on the College Website.

We value the ongoing support and involvement of parents in our school community. Their partnership is integral to the success of our students, educational initiatives, and programs. As the new semester begins, we remain focused on continuous improvement and innovation. We are committed to nurturing the academic, social, and personal growth of every student at Aitken College.

Our new Cumberland building received an Australasian-wide design award for which we are very proud. The new P-2 building is showing progress with concrete pours beginning for footings and the sub floor to the building. The students benefit from seeing the complexities of construction and the preliminary works needed to get a building out of the ground.  Our sustainability efforts have not gone unnoticed either, with achievements receiving state-wide recognition as a 5-STAR ResourceSmart school.  Our agriculture and horticulture program continues to provide students with outdoor experiences in managing animals and propagation of plants. Our four lambs that were born just recently have added an additional experience for our students.

Our student alumni are very important to us and in their role as ambassadors of the school they help us promote the uniqueness of the school far and wide, including its strong sense of Community, Sustainability, Pastoral Care, Social Justice, Character,  Values, Pathways  and Landscape.  Some of our alumni have joined our Board and Committees and we welcome others who wish to express an interest in giving the school their support.

When choosing a school for your child you are encouraged to visit and talk to our staff and students.
