Maths
The old-school Maths implements have featured in 10B's classroom recently. Using a protractor and compass to investigate the circle and its 360 degrees. Students were guided through a 12-step process; consisting of a neatly drawn x & y axis, three graduated circles drafted with a compass, accurate division of this circle into equal 22.5 degree segments and some complicated dot-to-dot sketching. And viola!!! a Compass Rose was the result. This is now the perfect staging point for the next lesson - using compass bearings in the application of Trigonometry.
Rocking our World
The pinhole camera was the first ever camera. It works by allowing only a very small amount of light to stream into the 'dark room' (box) via a hole the size of a pin prick. An inverted image then forms on a thin sheet of tracing paper (which is what this class did) or onto photographic paper (the usual practice) to retain the image. The students images and results were surprisingly good, however, they aren't in a format we can share with you.
Home Workshop
First students learned about concreting by preparing a small slab. This then became the base for mastering tiling skills. Students are enjoying time to perfect their handy skills in these classes. If they haven't been bricklaying, tiling or fixing mowers - they have been learning to use a trowel with finesse to plaster a small piece of gyprock.
Indonesian
In their Indonesian class, students engaged in a fashion show, proudly wearing traditional Indonesian clothing. Each student took to the stage, showing garments that represent the rich cultural heritage of various regions in Indonesia. As part of the activity, they wrote and presented a descriptive paragraph in Indonesian, detailing the attire they were wearing. This exercise not only allowed them to explore and appreciate Indonesia's diverse traditional fashion but also helped them practice their language skills in a fun and interactive manner.
