Division Cross Country Running
We had a lovely sunny day at Beechworth for the Ovens and Mitta round of cross country running. We sent a small but fast group to compete against the other schools in our division.
The first race of the day was the 5km run for the 16 year old boys and the 17-21 year old boys. Alec was the first home (beating the lead bike around) in the super fast time of 16.45 minutes. Will finished in a very strong fifth place in a time of 20.41 minutes.
Evelyn was our only representative in the 16 years girls. Evelyn ran a very strong race to finish in fourth in the 3km event.
Lincoln demonstrated how to pace an event, starting the race with the back markers and gradually overtaking the field the further he ran, finishing with a strong sprint finish in 9th. Eddy, taking a different approach, started fast and probably got faster as he went, finishing 70 secs before the 2nd place runner.
Emily and Dyllen represented us in the U14 girls race. Both ran controlled races, pacing themselves well so they were both able to run home strongly. Emily finished in 15th , with Dyllen not far behind in 19th.
Tom competed in the 12/13 years event. Tom worked hard and gave his all to finish in 36th place.
The 12/13 year old girls contained our only team. The girls finished 2nd in the team event, just missing out on having the entire team qualify for the next round. Their individual results included a fast finishing Nina in 4th, Charlotte in 7th, Bianca in 8th, with Abigail and Sierra coming in at 28th and 29th respectively.
Congratulations to all the competitors for representing the school so well, and for cheering each other on throughout the day.
