Saint Francis Xavier - Principal's Report
Term 3 - Week 2
Dear Parents and Friends of St Francis Xavier,
A big welcome back to Term Three to all our wonderful families. As always, we look forward to a busy term jam-packed with lots of fun, lots of learning and lots of student achievements!
Olympics + Kaboom Sports
The fast-approaching Summer Olympics in Paris will be such a fun time for many students in our school. The Olympics always brings a wave of excitement and inspiration not just to students, but also to the wider community. We will be using this rare opportunity to organise our own mini-Olympics at school, which will be hosted by Kaboom Sports next Tuesday afternoon. The activities will focus on fostering teamwork, healthy competition, and physical fitness. Parents are most welcome to come and watch.
Date: Tuesday 23rd July
Time: 1:45pm
Venue: Basketball Court
This year the Olympics run from 26th July - 11th August. During this period, teachers will aim to provide rich learning experiences in each classroom linked to the games. They will have opportunities to explore the history, geography, and cultures of the participating countries and also to celebrate the achievements of our amazing Australian athletes.
Prep-2 Swimming Program
In the second half of this term, the junior school will participate in a structured swimming program which will take place at our local swimming centre, PARC. Students from Prep- Grade 2 will attend 5 sessions, one each day during Week 7. (Monday 26th August - Friday 30th August)
Specific information about lesson times and groupings will be sent out closer to the date, however it is really important that parents take time over the next few weeks to work on some of the organisational skills required for students to attend.
To ensure that your child is well-prepared and can make the most of this experience, we kindly ask for your support in helping them practice key organisational skills at home such as;
-packing and unpacking their bags
-drying themselves after a bath/shower
-changing into their clothes without assistance
-packing up after themselves and keeping belongings in one place
Please be confident that school staff will be at each lesson to assist where required, so please do not panic and think the students won't receieve any help - they will. It is important to remember however that developing these skills not only will foster independence, but will also make the whole experience of swimming lessons smoother and more enjoyable for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping our young swimmers develop these important life skills. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Parent Teacher Meetings
Parent Teacher Meetings will take place this term. Please mark the following dates in your calendars:
-Monday 19th August (3:30pm - 7:00pm)
-Thursday 22nd August (3:30pm - 7:00pm)
Information on how to book in for your meeting will be communicated with families later this month. It is important that every family makes a time to meet with your child's teacher, either on one of these evenings or at a scheduled PSG meeting.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN reports for Grade 3 and 5 students who completed their testing in Term 1 will be sent home in envelopes tomorrow. Please check your child's school bag to ensure they are not damaged. If, due to family arrangements, you should require an additional copy of the results, please email me directly and I can forward you a digital copy.
We hope to see as many families as possible at our mini-olympics next Tuesday afternoon!
Have a great weekend everyone.
Kind Regards
Steve Peart
School Principal
