Chaplaincy Trivia Night

Quiz nights are always a risky unknown – will you be the most likely contenders for the wooden spoon or come up against a neighbouring table playing for sheep stations instead of a good time.

But the biggest question of them all at fundraising quiz nights is: “did we raise enough money?”

Well the answer from Friday night’s Kyabram P-12 College Chaplaincy Support Group quiz night in Parkland Golf Club’s function room was a resounding yes – on all counts!

Someone did get the wooden spoon, apparently a couple of sheep stations were on the line and yes, the committee was pretty happy with the financial outcome.

Chaplain Liz Spicer OAM said the evening was a sellout, with people coming not just from Kyabram but also from Echuca, Rochester and other surrounding towns.

“Some even came from NSW,” Liz laughed.

“With a five-decade theme starting with the 1960s there was something for everyone and at the end of the night it was amazing how close all the final scores were,” she said.

“Chris Hunter was a very entertaining quizmaster – who brought with him an endless parade of some of the worst dad jokes in history – and his wife Alyson had the more serious job of keeping all the scores.

“And Sue Walley did a huge job organising and overseeing the night – with everything from the prizes to the super spread put on for the supper – and none of it would have happened without all the amazing volunteers on the committee who gave up so much time to help.”

Liz said all the money raised will go directly to supporting the chaplaincy program at the school so it can continue its vital work with students of all ages.

She said the committee’s work also showed in the wider grassroots support from all the people who paid to be part of the evening.

“That’s one of the core reasons our chaplaincy program is so successful – because so many people understand how much it is worth to the young people we help and how important that is for the whole community,” Liz added.

“And we thank everyone of them for being there and making it such a great night.”
