Coaching Model at Sacred Heart
“Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their growth.”
At Sacred Heart we are currently engaging in a round of instructional coaching with our graduate teachers, Ms O'Meara and Ms Porter. Our coaches (Ms Rafferty and Mrs Stroud) work one-to-one with these teachers, to model and observe classroom practice and to support reflection and professional conversation. The aim is to build a partnership to develop evidence-based teaching practices.
We have been absolutely blown away by how capable, responsive, and eager to learn our graduate teachers are. We are truly blessed to have them on our team.
WHY INSTRUCTIONAL COACHING?
- Opportunity to learn alongside an expert who observes your practice and provides feedback
- Supports the trialling and implementation of strategies to improve practice and impact on students
- Focused on helping teachers to learn, rather than teaching them
- Provides opportunities to adjust practice in response to feedback based on direct observation.
Here is Mrs Stroud in action in Ms O'Meara's class. During this English lesson, Ms O'Meara observed Mrs Stroud teaching all components of the learning-to-read block — from phonemic awareness and irregular word instruction to the explicit teaching of morphology.
