Physical Education

In The 'Classroom'

What have we been learning about in Physical Education this term?

Foundation, Years 1 + 2:

Students in the junior school have completed a unit on athletics skills including running, jumping and throwing. We used modified equipment to practice the movements of shot put and discus and developed different techniques to jump for height and distance. This week we have begun our unit on Target Games which will continue for the remainder of the term.

Year 3 + 4:

Students in the middle years have completed a unit on Athletics skills. Initially using modified equipment to practice skills such as shot put and discus, they quickly moved on to using the real equipment, creating some solid divots in the oval as they hurled the 2kg shot puts. Students were very comfortable in their long jump techniques but were put well out of their comfort zone as many tried triple jump for the first time. This week we have begun our unit on Target Games which will continue for the remainder of the term.

Year 5 + 6:

The senior students have also completed their unit on athletics skills. Refining techniques that they were familiar with from previous years and athletics carnivals. Persistence tended to be the theme for a lot of the lessons as students aimed to perfect techniques such as the hop, skip, jump order of triple jump. This week we have begun our unit on Target Games which will continue for the remainder of the term.

House Athletics Carnival

What an incredible House Athletics Carnival! A huge congratulations to all our Year 4–6 students who headed down to Sandringham Athletics Track to represent their house in our final major sporting event of the year. It was a beautiful sunny day, and the enthusiasm from everyone was absolutely fantastic.

I spent most of the day at the 100m finish line, and what stood out most to me was the outstanding sportsmanship and encouragement shown by students — not just for their own house, but for everyone competing. It was a wonderful display of our school values in action, and you should all be very proud of yourselves.

Once all the events were complete and the points tallied, the results were:

🏅 4th – RED House

🏅 3rd – BLUE House

🥈 2nd – GOLD House

🥇 1st – GREEN House

Congratulations to GREEN House, our 2025 House Athletics Champions!

A massive thankyou to all the parent volunteers who helped out on the day. The event would not have run as smoothly as it did without your amazing help.

 District Athletics Carnival

After some very impressive performances at the House Athletics Carnival, a team has been put together to represent Black Rock at the Seaside District Athletics Carnival on Monday the 1st of September at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. A huge congratulations to everyone who finished at the top of their event and qualified to go through to the next level. Best of luck to everyone next week!!

Footy Colours Day

On the last day of Term 3 (Friday 19th of September) we will be celebrating all things football with our annual footy colours day. Students are encouraged to wear their favourite footy team's colours from any of your favourite footy codes: AFL, rugby or soccer.

Following our assembly the students will participate in a parade celebrating each team and footy code. After recess we will be running the footy coin line to determine which is the most popular team at BRPS in 2024. We encourage students to bring as many coins as they would like to place in their favourite team's line. Proceeds will go to funding projects initiated by the SRC group, such as a long jump pit.
