Bullying No Way Week is a commitment being made by thousands of schools and supporters across the country. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to bullying prevention. It gives us an opportunity to connect with students, staff and school communities to implement workable solutions to prevent bullying.
In the lead-up to Bullying No Way Week, some of our senior students spoke at Friday’s assembly to share the theme for the week — “Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.” They shared messages about the importance of kindness, connection, and speaking up if they see something that isn’t right.
This week in classrooms, students explored how small actions—such as including someone, standing beside a friend, or speaking up when something’s wrong—can help stop unkind behaviour or bullying and make our school a place where everyone feels safe and valued. They discussed that kindness means using polite words, offering help, and caring for others, while respect means listening, taking turns, and treating people the way we would like to be treated.
As part of their learning, students completed some creative activities:
- Beehive Collage – Foundation - Year Two students created a colourful beehive collage that not only showed examples of kind and respectful actions, but also reflected what they had learnt about standing up for others and building positive connections.
- Bystander Speech Bubbles – Year Three - Year Six students wore speech bubble templates on their backs and wrote examples of things a helpful bystander could say (e.g., “That’s not okay” or “Let’s go tell a teacher together”). This encouraged them to think of practical, respectful ways to speak up in real-life situations.
Through these discussions and activities, students developed strategies for supporting each other, helping to prevent unkind and bullying behaviour, and creating a kind, connected, and respectful school community.
