Principal Update

Sarah Rose, Principal

Welcome back to school for term 3 - I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating break.  We have hit the ground running as we embark on the subject selection process for current year 8 to 10 students, which formally commences today with the Course Information and Subject Expo evening; and supported by Morrisby career profile interviews for year 9 students throughout this week and into next, and then the Course Advising interviews next week.  All of these steps and initiatives feed into the broader process to determine the subjects we will run in 2026 and to ultimately build the whole-school timetable.

Next week we will hold our term 3 whole-school assembly which will be NAIDOC Week themed as this fell during the term break.  I look forward to having Indigenous Elders in attendance sharing their knowledge with our students and staff as well as first nations students and grade 6 leaders from Gisborne Primary School.

Our students have had recent success in the sporting realms which you can read about later in this edition.  Congratulations to all students and staff who have supported and coached the various teams, and the families that support their children in these endeavours.  An individual sporting achievement I'm pleased to highlight is that of Isabelle K who last week ran in the State Schools Victoria (SSV) State Cross Country competition held in the Yarra Valley.  Isabelle came 3rd overall in her age group with a time of 12:06, only just missing out on 2nd place.  This is a remarkable achievement at the state level, made even more so as Isabelle had travelled to the Yarra Valley after earlier competing in the school netball competition.

This term, three of our Year 9 students, Charlie F, Kandi P, and Polly B-C have set off on the adventure of a lifetime at the School for Student Leadership, Snowy River Campus, where they will spend all of Term 3. We wish them the best of luck, and can't wait to hear about the experience when they return.

As a school we are always so thrilled to hear about our student's achievements outside of school. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly, or to our general email address if you would like to share stories and photos of the amazing things happening in our school community. These can be profiled in our newlsetter or facebook page and is great recognition for our students.

It's also been wonderful to see the progress continuing to be made in the construction of our new Trades Hub.  The building is now at the 'wrapping' stage!

Looking ahead to the next few weeks, our Production team move into 'Tech week' before opening night of Into The Woods on Friday 8th August.  I can't wait to see this collaborative production with Kyneton High School.  If you haven't secured tickets yet and are keen to see the show, please refer to the details later in this edition.  Additionally, after the success of the first round of Family Kitchen Workshops, we look forward to the next round which will be pasta making workshops.  Please see the details later in the edition for dates and the link to register your interest.

I hope this is a positive and productive term of learning and academic enrichment for all, especially for our Year 12 students who largely finish their studies this term and then shift to focus on their final examinations in term 4.

I ask that you please note the dates listed in the college calendar in the next section, especially student free days this term - some dates apply to just single year levels where course advising sessions occur in place of timetabled classes, others are whole-school student free days - all are identified in the calendar.

Kind Regards,

Sarah Rose
