SKiPPS Basketball – Season Wrap-Up

Basketball continues to be a huge part of life at SKiPPS, with so many of our students and families involved in school teams through the PlayBall league.

We love seeing our students getting active, taking their first steps into organised sport, and learning the value of teamwork, commitment and sporting behaviour. Just as importantly, the team structure, with dedicated coaches and team managers, creates a fantastic opportunity for families to connect and support one another — courtside and beyond.

With the season recently completed, we want to celebrate the amazing efforts of our SKiPPS teams. From hard-fought games to thrilling grand finals — and even a few flags! — our students have given their all and done us proud.

Read on below to find out how some of our teams performed this season.

If you're a coach or manager who isn’t featured but would like to share a write-up or photo, please email Neil to be included in a future edition.

SKiPPS Rainbows and Unicorns (Year 1 Girls)

The players of the Grade 1 Rainbows and Unicorns team had never played a basketball game before (most had never seen a game before) and they lost all term until the last match!

Over the term each players ball skills and awareness of the game grew and they won the last match!  It was pure joy! As per the pic attached.  (The sort of happiness that could have been bottled).

SKiPPS Sparkles (Year 1 girls)

It was a solid start from the grade 1 SKiPPS Sparkles team making it to the grand final nearly undefeated in their first term of basketball.

They consistently improved each week, dribbling, passing, shooting and showed great resilience in a tough last game coming runners up to the top side. The best part was that the girls finished each game with big smiles eager to get back out there the next week.

SKiPPS Court Queens (Year 2 Girls)

Our Year 2 Court Queens team had a wonderful season, playing with bravery and skill to reach the A Grade Grand Final.

After an exciting game, the team came away with their first ever flag. Thanks to Matt Barbuto for his coaching of the team this year.

SKiPPS Heat (Year 2 Boys)

SKiPPS Heat gave it their all this season in the A grade, following last season’s exciting Grand Final win. Stepping up to tougher competition, the boys showed great effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship every game.

While the results didn’t always go our way, their improvement and commitment were clear to see. We’re incredibly proud of their hard work throughout the term, and we look forward to seeing them grow this season!

SKiPPS SKY (Year 4 girls)

Sky had a wonderful season off the back of transitioning up to Grade A.

As the season continued the team went from strength to strength just finishing outside of the top two. Every player continues to improve and the coaches award went to Pia Westall who had a brilliant season.

A big thanks to Ben Foster for his wonderful coaching.

SKIPPS BUZZY BEES (Year 6 girls)

After transitioning up to Group B the Bees found themselves at the top of the table by the middle of the season.

Working hard on a tighter team game, their passing in offense coupled with a more focused and organised defense brought them many great moments on court.

They were unlucky in the finals round but should be very proud of what they achieved.
