Library Term 2 Recap and Term 3 Update

Hello everyone, I am Miss Tye and I was given the pleasure of taking over from Mrs Poulton as the school’s Library Technician at the beginning of Term 2.

A little about me: My favourite book in primary school was The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis and fantasy is still a much beloved genre of mine. I also love history and studied it in university alongside education and library classes.

I am really enjoying my job and working with the children and staff every day. I wanted to share some of the things that have been accomplished in the library and by the students because their efforts have definitely been noticed.

The following statistics are based on student borrowing for the entirety of Term 2:

  • 312 books were added to the library’s collection.
  • There was a total of 1906 books borrowed out.
  • 277 were lost or still not returned by the last day (let’s see if we can make that number lower by the end of Term 3!)

The top borrowing classes for each year level group are:

  • Preps: Prep A with 92
  • 1/2s: 1/2F with 88
  • 3/4s: 3/4D with 117
  • 5/6s: 5/6E with 192 – which also makes them the top borrowing class for the term!

The top 10 student borrowers were:

  • Ella King 56E: 37
  • Bjorn Heaney 12D: 27
  • Jeannette Amos A’Oci 34A & Lizzy Lukic 34D: 17
  • Blake Quinn 56E: 16
  • Ivy Vella 12A: 15
  • Evie-Rose Jordan 56D: 13
  • Biak Tha Hmen 56E & Kikione Gray 34A: 12
  • Jacob Plevier 56E: 11

These classes and students should be very proud of their efforts and will receive certificates.

About Term 3:

Some notable additions to our collection include the non-fiction Pride In series which is all about LGBTQIA+ peoples in various fields and showing how these people have made massive differences to the world. An addition that will be used in class literature circles is Popcorn by Rob Harrell which won the 2025 Schneider Family Book Award for its representation of anxiety and OCD for middle years readers. It is for teacher borrowing only but it might be a discussion point at home.

One series the kids will be very excited about is the Diary of a Roblox Pro which is about Ari Avatar and his friends battling monsters and going on adventures with books 1-12 in our collection. This series is a similar style to Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the more game-like Diary of a Minecraft Zombie.

Also a friendly reminder that issues #5 and #6 of the Scholastic Book Club will be coming out this term with orders for #5 due by the 8th of August at the very latest. Dates for #6 will be around mid-term.
