From The Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

WELCOME BACK TO TERM 3

Welcome back to another school term.  Many of our students were happy to be back into school mode and I am sure many parents and carers were as well.  It has been wonderful to see the students return to our learning routines quickly in the first week of the term and also see them enjoying each other's company during playtimes.

We certainly have an action-packed term ahead that includes:

  • Numerous excursions and incursions.
  • 100 days of Prep
  • Our Boys' program offering a range of activities
  • Year 5 camp to Halls Gap
  • Year 4 camp  - Coastal camp to Anglesea
  • The beginnings of the Kinder Transition Program.
  • Father’s Day Stall and Father’s Day Breakfast
  • The Young Authors’ Program.
  • Energy Breakthrough starts to get serious with its training

… just to name a few.

Staffing Movement to Start Term 3

  • During the holidays Mr Toan and his wife Carly had their second child Fletcher and all is well in the Toan household.
  • At the end of this week Mrs Story will take family leave and we wish Mrs Story and Mrs Jones all the best in the upcoming birth.
  • Ms Carissa Pearson has joined us this term and will commence in 5D whilst Ms Tanya Koenig is on leave.  Ms Pearson will then move into 1A and work on Thursdays and Fridays, whilst Ms Jessica Burns takes the class from Monday -Wednesdays.
  • Ms Jordyn Bibby will begin her work with us this term in 5A while Mr Toan is on family leave.
  • We also welcome back Jodie Golding who has been away on medical leave and will begin working with classes again in a few weeks.

Wellbeing support Term 3

This term Laura Wallis (Student Wellbeing officer) has returned to Delacombe PS 5 days a week and we also have Jessica Eddy (Student Wellbeing officer) 5 days a week.  Laura and Jess along with Josh have allowed us to provide more wellbeing support across the school and their location in the Wellbeing Space/Re-set room is in the heart of our school.  They are also there for parent support and guidance.

School Happenings

During the holidays it is always an opportunity to get on top of a few other tasks. The following has llowingoccurred:

  • We had an upgrade to our ramps (front and back exit) around the school and this project will continue in a number of other areas to make the school compliant.
  • We also included another meeting room in our Wellbeing space to accommodate our Wellbeing staff.
  • We also repaired some of our synthetic that had been damaged by some tree roots near the 3-4 soccer pitch.

Last term we reached a decision on the Grade 5-6 playground after working with two companies.  We settled with A-space as our playground provider and they will install the playground in the January school holidays.  In this project we have decided to go with rubber softfall instead of mulch and this will provide a clean, low maintenance approach to this area.  We are excited to see this project become a reality and we are fortunate to have funds from our DASH program and Parents and Friends fundraising that allow us to provide this for our students.

Boys' Program 2025

This week we commence the Boys' Program and it will start in the Delacombe PS Stadium at 5.15pm.  The program that began in 2013 focuses on developing a reading culture among adolescents through a series of activities involving dads, carers or special friends to provide a positive role model.  We look forward to launching the Boys program this week and the rest of activities that lay ahead.

School Beanies

We had a strong interest in our new school beanies and the students and staff have found them very useful in the current cold weather we are experiencing.    If you are interested in the new beanie they are for sale at the office for $20.  Proceeds from the beanie will go towards the Cancer Council.

Prep Enrolments

We have a steady stream of enrolments coming in for the 2026 school year. If you or anyone you know has a 2026 Prep aged child, please contact the school to organise enrolment paperwork and book transition sessions.

Our Prep coordinators have been busy visiting our feeder kinders to meet the students, observe them in action and talk to kinder teachers about developing effective transition programs. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

A few reminders for parents that are coming up:

  • This Friday 1st August our Preps for 2025 celebrate 100 days of Prep.
  • Ballarat Young Author’s Program has its second workshop on Thursday 7th August at Buninyong PS, Scotsburn campus.
  • Assembly is on Friday 8th August at 2.30pm in the stadium
  • We have a Curriculum day (student free) on Wednesday 13th August

Have a great week – Scott, Marnie, Stephanie and Michael
