From the Principal

Mr Matt Elson

Hello Gympie, East parents, carers and community,

We are continuing a very settled term with many events occurring or coming up this term. It's important though that we focus on our main task of educating and it makes it much easier if students are working hard to ensure they are here each and every day. Everybody gets sick from time to time but we have had some increases in students taking days off and research tells us that this can have a big effect on routines and achievement at school.

Our PBL focus for this week is 'Use toilets at break'. This is important for students to ensure that at the end of each break they have a drink, go to the toilet and wash their hands to help with being organised for each session. If they have to go within class time, this is permitted but it does disrupt learning. Next week's PBL focus will be 'Be polite and use our manners'. This is obviously vital that all students are learning how to be polite and respectful to all. I know as a parent, this is one of the big things that I am always reiterating with my children and its no difference at school. We will have lessons in class relating to being polite and using our manners.

Congratulations to all of our athletes who recently competed at the Gympie District Athletics Trials. All students performed with excellent effort and sportsmanship. Special congratulations to Indi Kahler for winning the Tetrathlon and also age champion for her age group. Students who qualified for the Wide Bay Athletics Trials in Bundaberg will be notified soon.

Premier's Reading Challenge concludes in Week 6, only 1 week to go. Please work hard to get the reading registers in. Children in Prep - 3 need to have read 20 books, and students in 4-6 need to have read 15 books as they are generally larger. We will also have our book week dress up parade on Wednesday 20th starting at 9:15am. Prizes for best dressed student, staff member and parent - get in the spirit of Book Week!

Finally, Monday is Crazy Hair Day for our PBL Reward. I cannot wait to see what kids come up with!

Thanks
