Mathematics – Multiplication Strategies
In Mathematics this term, students are developing efficient strategies for solving multiplication problems. Rather than relying solely on repeated addition or counting, they are learning to use known facts and landmark products to calculate answers more quickly and accurately.
Students are building confidence by recalling commonly known multiplication facts, such as square numbers (e.g. 6 × 6 = 36) and other familiar products, then using these to solve more challenging calculations. They are also learning to apply strategies such as doubling and halving, using near facts, and breaking numbers apart (partitioning) to make multiplication more efficient.
Encourage your child to practise their multiplication facts at home and ask them to explain the strategies they use. Being able to quickly recall key multiplication facts will help them solve more complex mathematical problems with confidence.
