Wellbeing Moments

Welcome to our Wellbeing Moment: a chance to pause for a minute and reflect on something small but important. There’s nothing you need to do – just take from it whatever feels useful to you.
This week’s focus is Motivation
Motivation is often thought of as something you either have or don’t have. But in reality, motivation usually doesn’t arrive first. More often, it shows up after you’ve already started something.
That means waiting to “feel motivated” can sometimes keep you stuck. Taking the first small step is often what creates the motivation to keep going.
On days when motivation is low, it can help to remember:
- Starting is usually the hardest part
- You don’t need to feel ready to begin
- Action often creates momentum
Sometimes motivation looks like:
- Doing 5 minutes of work and then continuing because it’s easier once you’ve started
- Turning up to training even when you don’t feel like it
- Opening your book or laptop and just beginning, even if slowly
- Completing one small task to get things moving
Most people don’t start because they feel motivated - they start, and then motivation follows.
And if you ever want someone to talk to, you’re always welcome to check in with your Head of Year or our College Psychologists.
