Collaborative Learning Conferences

This year, we are excited to introduce Collaborative Learning Conferences as part of our assessment and reporting process. They are taking place in Week 1 of Term 3:

Date: Thursday 16 July, 2026

Time: 20 minute sessions between 9:00 am and 7:20 pm.

These conferences bring together students, parents and teachers in a shared conversation about learning. Students will play an active role by sharing examples of their work, reflecting on their progress, celebrating achievements and discussing future learning goals.

During the conference, families will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear directly from their child about their learning journey.
  • View and discuss samples of work that showcase growth and achievement.
  • Receive feedback from teachers about academic progress and reports.
  • Discuss strengths and next learning steps.
  • Work together to identify ways to support learning both at school and at home.

Following their conference, families are invited to visit our Specialist Learning Expo, where specialist learning spaces will be open to showcase student learning across Art, Physical Education, Digital Technologies, Music and Italian. Students will have the opportunity to share their work, demonstrate skills and celebrate the learning that takes place beyond the classroom.

These conferences are designed to strengthen the partnership between home and school while empowering students to take ownership of their learning. We look forward to welcoming families and celebrating the progress and achievements of all students.

Bookings are now open. Please see the Principal News to access the booking link.

Literacy

Thank you to the parents and carers who attended our recent InitiaLit Information Session. During the session, we explored how children learn to read, the research behind our commitment to literacy, and the important role that phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension all play in developing confident readers and writers. We also discussed ways families can support literacy development at home through reading, conversation and shared experiences with books.

Learning to read is one of the most important journeys a child will take, and it is most successful when school and home work together. We are grateful for the support our families provide and the interest shown in our literacy program.

If you have any questions about literacy at St Bernard’s, reading, spelling, writing, home reading, or literacy development in general, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I am always happy to discuss literacy and support families in understanding how we can work together to help every child become a successful reader and writer.

The presentation slides have been shared on Seesaw for families who were unable to attend.
