FAMILY QUIZ

Our Grade 6 students have been reading ‘Can You See Me?’ The main character's name is Tally Olivia Adams. What is the name of Tally's sister?

Learning in Action

Reading by Alaya

This term, the Grade 6 students read a book called 'Can You See Me?' It's about a girl named Tally Olivia Adams who has autism and is moving into high school with some of her primary school friends. She moved to Kingswood Academy in the hope of fitting in with all of the others. One particularly notable day, Tally gets to school she sees her friends with ‘Nasty Luke’, her school bully. Tally finds it difficult to fit in with the other students because she has autism and finds it hard to regulate her emotions. In conclusion, Tally will have a journey throughout high school, but she realises towards the end of the book that some of those closer to her are beginning to understand her more, including Luke and her sister, Nell.

Persuasive Letters

Grade 6 students have been writing persuasive letters that are addressed to Mr Wight. The focus is about getting a therapy dog to support our students who can be a little more stressed than others, especially new students, students with additional needs and, of course, Preps! Here is my introductory paragraph from my writing piece about why we should get a therapy dog:

Hello, my name is Abbey Perrett and I am a well-taught formal student who attends Lysterfield Primary School in Grade 6. I am here to talk to you about the brilliant suggestion of getting a therapy dog for our school. A therapy dog will benefit our school and growing community with its many outstanding traits. Having a therapy dog will also help students' reading fluency by 12% to 30%. One of these dogs can also help students' education, overall attendance performances, with just weekly visits to the dog.

Mathsby Jesse

The recent learning in Maths has been centred around 'Probability'. Some of the activities that we have done to learn about probability were flipping a coin a hundred times or rolling a die a hundred times. This helped us learn about relative frequency. Theoretical probability is how many times that the probability of a die rolling a certain number. e.g., the probability of rolling a five on a six-sided die is one-sixth. The probability of flipping a coin and getting heads is fifty percent. But doing it multiple times can change that outcome. Say I flipped a coin one hundred times. The outcome could change to fifty two percent heads and forty eight percent for tails. This is relative frequency. The probability changes and each outcome can be different.

Knowledge Richby Seb

This term in Knowledge Rich, the Grade 6 students have been learning about all the different cultures around the world and their stories of when they were either migrants, refugees or asylum seekers. Recently, we watched a video about two girls who both moved to Australia with different experiences getting here. One girl migrated from New Zealand to Australia because her dad got a job offer in Australia. The other girl from Iran was a refugee because her dad was in danger from his job. In conclusion, the girls and their families had very different experiences coming to Australia, yet both had to make a new start with various challenges.

STEM Room Donations Needed

We are currently collecting recycled materials for our exciting Term 3 Science Projects in the STEM room. We would greatly appreciate donations of clean items such as plastic water bottles or soft drink bottles, shoe boxes, plastic lids, and cardboard tubing or paper rolls (please no toilet rolls). Donations can be dropped off at the STEM room at any time. Thank you for your continued support in helping provide valuable hands-on learning opportunities for our students.
