Foundation News

Our Foundation students returned to school this term full of excitement as they counted down to our 100th Day of School. On Thursday 6th August, we celebrated this special milestone with a small ceremony followed by a fantastic party. It was wonderful to see so many members of our parent community joining us for this special occasion as Mrs Mauger presented each Foundation student with a certificate and their very own 100 Days of School medal. Students had lots of fun dressing up as 100-year-old people and enjoyed sharing a delicious plate of food with their friends.

Throughout the day, our students took part in a range of exciting 100 Days of School activities. They danced the day away at our music disco, counted to 100 using their dot jars, created colourful 100 Day crowns, and challenged themselves to find 100 hidden objects in a fun party-themed "Look and Find" activity. These hands-on experiences helped celebrate how much our students have learnt and grown over their first 100 days of school.

We would like to say a huge thank you to our families and the school community for celebrating this special milestone with us. It was a memorable day filled with laughter, learning and fun, and everyone had a terrific time!

Grade 1:

Just a little update on what we have been getting up to in Grade 1 this week.

📚 In Phonics, we have been learning to read and spell CVCC and CCVC words, practising our letter formation, high-frequency words and reading fluently.

✏️ In Writing, we have been working on information reports. We have been finding key facts, using headings and writing sentences to share information. We have been learning about godwits as part of this.

🔢 In Maths, we have started learning about sharing and grouping. The students have been making equal groups, finding halves and beginning to explore arrays.

💛 For Wellbeing, we have been focusing on kindness, respectful relationships and help-seeking as part of Bullying No Way Week. We have been talking about who we can go to when we need help and how we can support our friends.

🇦🇺 In Integrated, we have continued learning about Early Explorers and Settlers in Australia and what lay beyond the Blue Mountains.

🧪 We also had lots of fun during Science Week with the Cosmic Chemistry Show. The students really enjoyed the experiments and getting to see science in action!

🎭 We have also been practising for our upcoming school concert. The students have been working hard and are becoming more confident with their performance.

It was also lovely to have our Grandparents Day and Character Dress-Up Day. Thank you to all the families and grandparents who came along and helped make it such a special day for the students.

The class has had a very busy week, and I am very proud of their effort and progress. 😊

Grade 2:

Time flies when you are having this much fun! Year 2 has had an incredibly busy fortnight of learning and celebration. 

Our sports sessions have been full of energy, with students dodging the rain to tackle the steeplechase, baton relays, and a thrilling rock-paper-scissors showdown. Back in the classroom, we have turned into literacy detectives, using Bob Graham's books to discover how illustrations help add meaning to a story. In maths, we have been putting our multiplication and division skills to the test to solve word problems.

The absolute highlight was Book Week! The classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students showed off their amazing costumes and shared their learning with special visitors. We extend a heartfelt thank you to our family community for the spectacular costumes and for joining us for the parade. To round out a great week, we also participated in a meaningful activity to support "Bullying. No Way! Week.

Grade 3: 

It has been a busy and exciting time in Grade 3! In Literacy, students have been exploring procedural writing by learning how to write clear, sequenced instructions. They put their skills into practice by writing and following a procedure for making delicious fairy bread—a fun and tasty way to learn about language, sequencing and precise instructions.

We also enjoyed an exciting Cosmic Chemistry STEM incursion, where students explored fascinating scientific ideas through hands-on experiments and activities. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they investigated, questioned and discovered!

Our Book Week Dress-Up Day was a wonderful celebration of books and reading. Students enjoyed dressing up as favourite characters and sharing their love of stories with their classmates.

A special highlight was our Grandparents' Morning, when we welcomed grandparents and special family members into our classroom. Students were thrilled to share their learning and spend such a meaningful morning together. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the occasion so special!

Grade 4:

Here is an update on some of the things we have been getting up to in Grade 4 this week.

In Literacy, we have been looking at the movie 'Wonder'. We have finished off the movie study and have written journal entries from the point of view as one of the characters.

We had lots of fun during Science Week with the Cosmic Chemistry Show! The students loved watching the exciting experiments and seeing science come to life right before their eyes.

In Maths, we have been looking at fractions and decimals, with a focus on finding equivalent representations of fractions using related denominators and make connections between fractions and decimal notation.

We have also been busy practising for our upcoming school concert. The students have been working incredibly hard and are improving in their performance. We can’t wait to see them shine!

Grade 5/6: 

We can’t believe we are already halfway through Term 3! The students have been working hard and doing a fantastic job in both Literacy and Numeracy. It has been great to see their confidence growing as they continue to develop their skills and take on new challenges in the classroom.

There has also been lots of excitement over the past few weeks as we get ready for our upcoming school concert! This week, we had a special Buddies session where our Year 6 students helped their Prep buddies with their concert practice. It was wonderful to see our Year 6 students being such positive role models and showing patience and encouragement towards their younger buddies. We are all getting very excited for the big day and can’t wait to see everyone perform!

A huge congratulations to our Teeball girls on an outstanding achievement! After winning the Cardinia Division, the team progressed to the Southern Metropolitan Regional Finals at Mornington Baseball Club, a fantastic accomplishment. The girls faced some tough competition on the day and unfortunately, were unable to progress to the next round. However, they should be incredibly proud of how far they have come. Throughout the competition, the girls demonstrated amazing skill, determination and teamwork, representing our school with pride. We are so proud of each and every one of them and congratulate them on their fantastic effort and success!
