This Week At OOPS

Then and Now
This term, Year 1 and 2 students have been exploring the similarities and differences between the past and present as part of their Inquiry unit on history. They have investigated how everyday life has changed over time by researching topics such as technology, transport, clothing, food, and housing. After gathering information on at least three different areas, each student selected one topic to explore in greater detail. They then published their work using headings, labelled pictures, and informative writing. Some students even included a glossary to explain key terms, showcasing their growing research and writing skills.
Year 1s and 2s have been identifying the main idea in texts by examining the author's word choices. They are learning that text-specific words used in non-fiction texts can help us make a sensible guess about what the book is probably about. This included students making a tally of high-frequency, text-specific words, with some students discovering that their key topic word appeared over 50 times throughout one text!
We are looking for someone with knitting skills who would be willing to knit the jumper shown below for Ginger, our school therapy dog. We will supply the wool in our school colours. If you are able to help to keep Ginger nice and warm during winter, please contact the office.
Preparation for our school production of Shrek Jr are well underway. We are trying to source timber for constructing Fiona's tower. If anyone knows of any sources of timber pallets or wood, please let us know.
