Inquiry Exhibition

It was fantastic to be able to welcome families and students into the senior classes to showcase the dioramas and information posters based on events that have shaped Australia some of these included; The Gold Rush, Crossing of the Blue Mountains, The Rum Rebellion, Burke & Will Expedition and Batman's Treaty. Well done to all the students as the level of engagement, effort, research and team work was fantastic.

Middle Years Team

Middle Years students were excited to get to attend an online incursion with Author's Ahn Do and Amelia Mellor last week. These sessions were offered by The State Library Victoria and provided an inspirational opportunity for students to engage with some of their favourite, or soon to be favourite, authors. Students from around Victoria had sent in questions which the authors answered during the session; they were based around what inspired characters, ideas or settings in the books, or how the authors went about creating their stories. Ahn Do spoke about getting lots of ideas from his children and brain-storming a list of ideas then crossing out anything that had been done before. Many students put their hands up and sent lots of 👍💕 or 👏 when Ahn spoke about his Wolf Girl, Ninja Kid, Hot Dog and Weirdo books/series. Amelia Mellor was a new author for many of our cohort; she spoke about how she researches historical events and people and builds her stories around them. Students were fascinated to learn about Federici, a real historical figure from 19th Century Victorian theatre days.

Now we are the end of Term 3, we are ready to play The Game of Life! Middle Years students have been busily creating cards based on the 4 topics: Role Models, Sports & Hobbies, Principles, and Customs. Now it is time for students to start to play the game and learn more about each other as they go.  It was wonderful for us to learn about who our students look up to and admire through their role model interviews! It has been fabulous to link to learning about family customs through our S.A.K.G.P. and hearing about the festive food traditions they enjoy. This week, we learnt about different traditions from various countries and compared what was similar and what was different: e.g., Diwali, Hannukah, Kwanza, Christmas... It was really interesting to hear about the range of sports and hobbies our students participate in too. It was especially interesting and important to think and learn about principles, as on our mid-year reports we are reporting against Ethical Capabilities. Students thought about worlds where there was no honesty, or sharing, or care for animals, or the environment - they then came up with rules to fix these worlds and things that they could say to others to try and get them to follow the rules. This learning has been really powerful in getting students to think about how they work within the classroom learning community, and to reflect on their behaviours and attitudes.

We take this opportunity to wish all our families a wonderful, safe and warm holiday and look forward to hearing all about it on our return next term.

Prep – Grade 2 in the BER

As we reach the halfway point of the year, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate all the fantastic learning, growth, and achievements happening in the Prep – Grade 2 spaces in the BER. It’s been a jam-packed term filled with creativity, curiosity, and collaboration, and we couldn’t be prouder of our students.

Our Grade 1 and 2 students have been diving deep into multiplication and repeated addition through a hands-on project called Array Cities. Using their knowledge of rows and columns, students designed their own cityscapes filled with buildings made from arrays. It was amazing to see the way they connected maths with creativity – turning numbers into skylines!

Meanwhile, our clever Prep learners have been exploring the world of subtraction by designing their very own Subtraction Monsters. With googly eyes, sharp teeth, and imaginative designs, these monsters helped students visualise taking away and solving number problems in a fun and engaging way. The excitement and pride on their faces as they explained their thinking was a joy to see.

Throughout the building, we’ve noticed incredible progress – not only academically, but also in confidence, independence, and teamwork. A huge thank you to all our students, families, and teachers for the support, effort, and positivity that fills our learning space each day.

We wish everyone a safe, restful, and fun-filled holiday break. Take the time to recharge and enjoy, ready to return for the second half of the year with energy and enthusiasm to finish strong!

Sepcialists

Bonjour mes amis,

The French have a National Day, we call Bastille Day.

Bastille Day is the common name given in English speaking countries to the National Day of France. It is celebrated every year on July 14th to commemorate the storming of the Bastille prison in Paris, a key event in the French Revolution.

In French, it is formally known as La Fête Nationale.

Bastille Day is also celebrated in other countries with French communities.

We celebrate in Melbourne with a weekend festival of food, fashion and fun at the Victoria Markets.

To continue the celebrations, we will be having a French day at school on Friday 25th July.

Looking forward to a fabulous start to Term 3!

Bon voyage!
