From the Director of Junior School

Mrs Melissa Thirgood

Dear Junior School Families,

As we approach the school holidays, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the many rich and engaging learning experiences our students have enjoyed this term.

Our Kindergarten students had a wonderful visit to the Sustainability Learning Centre, where they experienced learning on Country, exploring the bush and discovering its importance to our native animals and environment. Meanwhile, our Prep students joined with the Prep cohort from St Virgil’s College for a visit to the Train Park in West Hobart, building friendships and connections through shared play and exploration (pictured).

Year 1 students ventured to Battery Point as part of their HASS learning, where a visit to Narryna House helped them understand what life was like more than a hundred years ago (read more in Junior School News). Year 2 students climbed aboard the Red Double Decker Bus for a tour around Hobart, identifying key landmarks and learning more about the city they live in (pictured).

Year 4 students deepened their understanding of the water cycle during their excursion to the WaterworksReserve, where hands-on learning brought their science unit to life (pictured).

Our Year 5 students have been proudly participating in the Festival of Voices, showcasing their talents and growing in confidence through performance. And finally, many of our Year 3–6 students are preparing to compete in the Southern Tasmanian Dance Eisteddfod on the final day of term – a celebration of creativity, collaboration and courage.

Each of these experiences has supported our students to extend their knowledge, skills, and understanding across a range of learning areas in meaningful and memorable ways.

I would like to wish all our families a restful and safe holiday break. We look forward to welcoming our students back for the start of Term 3 on Tuesday 22 July
