A Word from the Principal

Ms Kylie Campbell

A warm welcome to our community

Happy Winter everyone!  I hope you are all staying warm especially on these cold and now windy days.

Reporting to Parents against the Victorian Curriculum

School reports come out next Friday, which is the last day of school.  Please look out for your child’s school report which will be sent to you directly via your email through the COMPASS app.   Don’t forget that you should download a copy to your desktop so that you have a permanent copy of the report.  Also note that this is important for our year 6 students particularly as the secondary school next year may not use COMPASS and you will lose access at the end of the year. Keeping copies is very important.

A huge thanks to Mr Saville who is our Assessment and Reporting Co-ordinator and the staff for their efforts in writing the student reports.  I read every student’s report before it comes home to you so I believe you will be happy with the progress to date.

Thanks to our families who have been involved in the Student Support Group Meetings and you will now have clear feedback about the support that your child has been receiving and progress to date.  All families will be involved in the Student Led Conferences which are being held next term.  This is important as your child will discuss with you the learning that has taken place over the semester.   You will also have the opportunity to speak directly with your child’s teacher about their progress while referring to the pieces of work in their learning portfolio. It is an opportunity to celebrate the hard work and effort that your child has put into their learning and their achievements.

Naplan Exam Results

We have had a few enquiries about student results on the Naplan exams that were conducted in March.  The results are not yet available to parents and they will be released early next term.  Once the school has the results, we do send them home to you the day that they are delivered.  Thanks for your patience but the always come out in term three.

Weeden Heights PFA Disco

A huge thank you to the PFA for organising a disco for the whole school!  I hope that everyone took the opportunity to come along and have some fun with their friends.  It was wonderful to see so many people there and Milo,  our wellbeing dog, had an awesome time supporting students to have fun.  Thank you so much for supporting your school and the PFA fundraising event.  The PFA do an incredible job hosting events for students and contributing to resources for the school.

Camp Information Session – Whole School Camp

Don’t forget that we have our camp information session next week.  The session is being held in our hall from 4 – 5pm on Tuesday 1 July.  All staff will be present to answer any of your questions about how the process works.  Staff will share how to prepare your child for the camp eg regulating water temperature in a shower, using a knife and fork to cut meat etc.

I am incredibly proud of what our school can achieve and this is one of the wonderful things that can be achieved when our school is this size.   We are very much looking forward to week three next term when we are all heading to camp.  The best day will be Thursday 7 August when our whole school will be at camp together.

After the Bell – OSHC and holiday program

Unfortunately our OSHC company are not able to conduct a holiday program as they do need minimum numbers to operate.  We once again have not been able to achieve the threshold.  Our families have previously told us that they require a holiday program so when we signed with After the Bell, I told them that we could run a program each term.

I encourage you to support our before and after school program along with the holiday program.  If you need support for your family then this program operates on site in our hall from 7am and closes at 6pm.  There are new educators in the program and many processes and procedures have changed and continue to be adapted so that the program suits the needs of our Weeden Heights families.  They are there to support you and they hope to see you soon.

Final Day of Term – Early Dismissal

The final day for term 2 will be Friday 4 June at 2.30pm.    Parents are welcome to attend the short assembly from 2.10pm at the end of the day.   Staff will be presenting a few of the termly awards before wishing you all well over the term break.

Please ensure that you have arranged for the collection of your children at this earlier dismissal time.  If you are unable to make the 2.30pm finish time then please book your children into the OSHC program.

Well, that’s all from me. This has been a slightly longer term than usual and we are already for our winter break.

I hope that you all have a restful break.  Please stay healthy and safe with all the illnesses ‘out and about’ in the community.  See you all next term!

Until next time……

Kylie Campbell
