Celebrating Student Learning

At this week’s assembly, I took a moment to highlight the tremendous learning that’s been happening across the school this term. Our students have been working hard, and it’s been wonderful to see their growth in so many areas.

A special shout-out to our Year 2/3/4 class, who have been crafting some amazing persuasive writing. Their ideas, arguments and creativity are truly impressive!

I encourage you to take a moment to visit the Student Writing page on our website and see their work for yourself — it’s well worth the read. I’ll be sharing more great learning moments in the next newsletter, so stay tuned!

Facilities Update

Many of you will know that we’ve been advocating strongly for better facilities at Bolinda Primary School — particularly the urgent need for secure perimeter fencing.

Despite multiple letters, meetings and a recent security review highlighting the clear benefits of fencing for supervision and student safety, our requests to the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and the Minister for Education, Ben Carroll, have so far been denied. We’ve been told that unless we apply through a competitive grant process — which we’ve already done without success — there is no other avenue for funding.

This has been incredibly frustrating, especially knowing how important a well-designed, enclosed space is for supporting safe play and clear boundaries. While we’re proud of what we achieve every day with the resources we have, we continue to push for the upgrades our students deserve.

We’re not done yet — we’ll keep challenging, asking questions, and fighting for the resources our school community needs and deserves.

Sneak Peak at School Flags

This week, we received our brand-new banners and flags to replace the old, weather-worn ones — and we’re excited to give you a sneak peek before they go up!

There’s just one small hiccup: the printers are fixing an issue with our yellow Respect flag and one of the banners, so we’ll hold off displaying them until everything is just right.

Keep your eyes out around the school soon — we can’t wait to freshen up our spaces with these bright new additions!

Acknowledgement of Country

We welcomed our Koori Education Support Officer, Danni, last week to work alongside two of our Indigenous students this week to develop a special, tailored Acknowledgement of Country for Bolinda Primary School.

Danni spoke with the students about what it means to be a learner at Bolinda, and what they see, feel and experience when they’re out in our school’s natural spaces. Together, they began crafting an Acknowledgement that reflects our unique place, community, and connection to Country.

The Acknowledgement is currently being finalised, and we look forward to sharing it with you all at an upcoming assembly.

NAPLAN Results

This week we received our preliminary NAPLAN results, and we’re proud to share that our Year 3 and Year 5 students averaged STRONG in all areas of the assessment.

While NAPLAN is just one test on one day, it’s a humbling reminder that our teaching practices are making a real impact. We see the effort, growth and learning that happens every single day in our classrooms — and it's reassuring to know that this is translating into strong outcomes for our students.

We’re incredibly proud of our children, not just for these results, but for the consistent curiosity, perseverance and enthusiasm they bring to their learning. It’s a credit to our students, staff and school community — and a sign that we’re on the right path in giving our children the best possible start to their educational journey.

 Prep Tours for 2026

I’ve had the pleasure of running 19 one-on-one Prep tours so far this year for families looking ahead to 2026, and the response has been absolutely fantastic. It’s been wonderful to share what makes Bolinda Primary School such a special place, and the feedback from visiting families has been incredibly positive.

While we won’t know our exact numbers for next year until after enrolment forms are due on July 25, it’s been heartening to see such strong interest in our little school.

If you know a family who’s still deciding where to send their child in 2026, please let them know I’m always happy to have a chat and show them around. Word of mouth means the world to us — thank you for continuing to share the Bolinda spirit!

Minimum Standards Compliance Review

As we begin our school review cycle, we're currently reviewing all our policies — including those related to child safety and wellbeing.

At Bolinda Primary School, we are committed to creating an environment where students are safe and feel safe. Our child safety framework includes policies, codes, and procedures that support student wellbeing and protect them from harm. These are available on our website: https://www.bolindaps.vic.edu.au/policies-documents.

We're always looking to improve and welcome feedback from our families. If you have suggestions or ideas to strengthen our approach, please get in touch.
