SPECIALIST'S NEWS

ART

Our Grade 5/6 students have thrown themselves into tie dye this term, researching different folding and binding methods and then testing out their own plans before committing to the final designs.

They experimented across both t-shirts and socks, trialling a range of techniques to see what created the strongest patterns and colour effects. The room’s been loud, messy and genuinely fun, and the students are proud of what they’ve made. Their finished pieces will be on sale at the Family Fiesta.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

As Term 4 comes to an end, our Dinjerra students finish a lively and engaging term of Physical Education. This term the whole school participated in both footy and cricket clinics, learning new skills and enjoying highly energetic sessions. It has also been wonderful to see so many students sign up for the Thursday Auskick program, with a huge turnout showing the community’s strong enthusiasm for sport.

Lower primary students continued strengthening their fundamental movement skills through modified footy and cricket activities, focusing on throwing, catching, kicking and teamwork. They have grown in confidence, supported one another, and taken pride in practising new skills.

Upper primary students applied their skills in more structured sport settings. Our Year 5/6s competed in inter school sports, showing great sportsmanship and teamwork. They also refined their abilities through the footy and cricket clinics, developing a deeper understanding of rules, roles and strategies.

It’s been an energetic and rewarding term, and we’re proud of how actively and positively students have participated.

SPANISH

We have been enjoying some units of work in all year levels for Spanish this term and it’s hard to believe we are at week 8 already! Last week it was a family affair with my brother Chris bringing some drama to the preps with the Flying Bookworm incursion. It was really fun to see him bringing joy to the younger year levels.

Students in grade Prep to 2 have been focusing on ‘Mi mundo’ (My world) and exploring different topics each week such as family, pets and how to talk about themselves and their appearances. Here we can see students from 1/2M who have created monsters and labelled their body parts and are also participating in ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ in Spanish.

Students in grade 3 to 6 have been learning about the weather and had the challenge of making a weather forecast either in poster format (grade 3/4) or an online slide (grade 5/6). Students had to come up and present the weather in pairs, and it was great to see nearly everyone give it a go. Here we can see Finley and Omari showing their weather poster to the class. A special well done for standing up in front of everyone, Omari!

STEM

We approach the final few weeks of Term 4, we are beginning to wrap up our focus on Physical Science and Design and Technology in STEM.

Lower primary students enjoyed a range of hands-on explorative tasks, examining push and pull forces. They used the design process to create marble rollercoasters, model vehicles and buildings, while strengthening their collaborative skills and scientific vocabulary.

Upper primary students became global citizens and used their STEM skills to solve significant social, political and environmental issues. They selected from a range of pathways to demonstrate their learning and created educational movies, websites, digital environments and physical models. We look forward to presentation day when students share their creations with their peers.
