👷VET Pathways & WPL

VET/WPL NEWS

As the year draws to a close, we take this opportunity to celebrate the outstanding VET achievements of our Year 11 and 12 students. It is inspiring to see them investing in their futures by pursuing qualifications aligned with their interests and career goals.

Looking ahead, TAFE placements will be limited next year due to the competitive nature of VET. This highlights the importance of building a strong academic foundation early on. Working hard in Year 9 to achieve solid results in Maths and English, ensures students are well-prepared and positioned for success in Year 10 and beyond.

SCHOOL-BASED TRAINEESHIP OPPORTUNITIES

If you own a business and are interested in exploring opportunities for your son to undertake a School-Based Traineeship (SBT) in your chosen field, please get in touch. Government incentives are available to support both you and your son throughout the process.

WORKPLACE LEARNING

Our Year 11 General students are currently completing their two-week work placement. This opportunity gives them the chance to explore pathways of interest before making important decisions about apprenticeships, further study or full-time work. I am looking forward to visiting them on site.

The Year 10 I&E students will complete their final work experience as part of an SCSA-endorsed WPL program. They have truly made the most of the opportunity to experience different industries. I have enjoyed watching them mature and look forward to seeing them continue to grow as individuals over the next few years.

RECENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Programmed Careers Expo

We were recently invited to attend the Programmed Careers Expo, which proved to be an excellent opportunity to connect with a leading recruitment agency. The Expo is designed to showcase diverse career pathways, ranging from apprenticeships and traineeships to trades, administration, rail, civil, warehousing, and more.

The event highlighted opportunities for school leavers, including entry-level employment as well as apprenticeships and traineeships available upon completion of Year 12. For more information, visit:

CEAWA Annual Conference

As members of the Career Education Association of WA, we have the opportunity to attend events that enhance our understanding of current workforce trends. At a recent event, industry leaders highlighted four key areas of high growth:

  1. Data and Technologies – roles such as Solutions Architect, AI Engineer, and Remote Sensing Specialist
  2. Science and Engineering – including Robotics Engineer and Reliability Engineer
  3. Net Zero – careers such as Battery Design Specialist and Energy Broker
  4. Health, Care and Medical – opportunities like Music Therapist and NDIS Support Worker

While the rise of AI is reshaping the employment landscape, it was encouraging to hear that 75% of employers place greater emphasis on personal qualities and interpersonal skills in the workplace. Employers also stressed the importance of students gaining experience through volunteering, clubs or part-time work, as these activities demonstrate reliability, trustworthiness, and the ability to adapt to professional environments.
