Prep Learning Reflection

WEEKS 7 - 10
These past weeks we've been working on the sounds/spellings for 'qu', 'ng' and 'wh'. Practicing to read and write words like quit, squid, ring, sing, when and which. We've also worked on the 've' spelling, used in words like live, have, solve and twelve.
We've been reading Wombat Stew and have started a book called Wombats which is a hybrid book, having both a narrative story that entertains ha and a non-fiction element that informs us!
We've been learning new vocabulary words like stealth, amble, satisfied, advice, boast, sob, gush, dash.
In Numeracy, we've begun some exciting lessons on clocks as well as money. Learning how to use both analogue and digital clocks, and learning how to identify the gold Australian coins and how to calculate how much change is needed when buying items.
We've also begun working on some end of year assessments, where students are able to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of all of the maths learning we've done this semester!
A few weeks ago, we had the P-3 Sports Day! The students did an amazing job getting involved, showing resilience and good sportsmanship!
We've been lucky enough to go on two excursions lately! The first was a trip to Sunshine Library, where we were given a tour, listened to a story time and were given some wonderful information about the Library's programs. Make sure you visit over the summer to access some incredible stories and borrow some decodable texts so students can keep up their routines and practice over the holidays!
On our way back from the Library, we stopped by at Buckingham Reserve Playground, where we had a picnic and students got to explore the equipment. Here we observed designs and reflected on the different safety elements of the park and playground, linking with both our Term 3 & 4 Unit of Work topics.
This week, we went to the Sun Theatre and saw a special early screening of The Pout-Pout Fish. A story about connecting with community, working collaboratively, solving problems and the tough choices you have to make when you're a leader! It was great for the students to think about their narrative studies from this year and link that knowledge to a film context. The students sat wonderfully during the film and had a great time experiencing the historic cinema (build in the 1930s!).
This Tuesday, we had Step-Up Day! The students spent the morning in their new classrooms, with their new classmates and future Grade 1 teachers! They were so excited and did an incredible job. The Prep Team where very proud seeing them ready to go to Grade 1 gave us all a big smile!
Lastly, how can we forget about the 2025 Festive Concert & Art Show! The whole cohort absolutely rocked the stage! They performed with confidence and energy, and I've heard from multiple people that they think the Preps were one of the best on the night!
Then, stepping into the transformed gymnasium, I was absolutely blown away (and I'm sure you all were too!). The student had so many incredible pieces that they contributed to the show and should be very proud of themselves and all of the beautiful creations they worked throughout the year.
