JLC Newsletter- Year 1- Week 8, Term 4

In Mathematics, students deepened their understanding of Shape by investigating three-dimensional objects and comparing their features with two-dimensional shapes. They thoroughly enjoyed using a range of shapes to create their own imaginative pictures, which you can see in the photos below.

We are now revisiting the topic of Addition and Subtraction as we finish off the year. Students will continue to develop their understanding of how a number line and the partitioning of numbers into tens and ones can support them in solving a variety of addition and subtraction problems.

In Literacy, students accomplished learning the last sounds of the Year One InitiaLit program! Over the next few weeks, we will be revisiting previously taught sounds, spelling patterns, and tricky words to support students in consolidating their knowledge and applying these skills more confidently in their reading and writing.

A big thank you to all teachers and parents who assisted with our Water Familiarisation Program! The children loved having fun in the pool while learning important skills about staying safe and feeling comfortable around water.

Week 9 and 10 Reminders:

Year 2

Hello from the Year 2 Team!

We are delighted to share that our swimming sessions were a fantastic success! Over five visits to the pool, the students demonstrated real determination and growth—both in their skills and their confidence. Well done, everyone!

This week, the children finished listening to The 25th Annual African Hippopotamus Race. They loved immersing themselves in this classic tale and engaging with a richer, novel text. Next week, we'll begin our final Literacy Unit, which carries a gentle Christmas theme to help prepare the students for the season ahead.

As we enter the liturgical season of Advent, our class discussions have focused on the spiritual gift of “waiting”—waiting in hope, in peace, and in joy—as we prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus.

In Mathematics, we are about to begin our final unit for the year, focusing on Location. As part of this, we'll be working with directional language. You might like to practise some of these terms at home with your child: quarter turn, half turn, three-quarter turn, clockwise, anticlockwise, left/right, and so on.

Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement. We look forward to a joyful and reflective Advent journey together.
