S.P.O.R.T.

2025 has been a remarkable year for sport at Kurri Kurri High School, marked by student achievement, increased participation, and powerful examples of leadership and community spirit. It has been our busiest sporting calendar yet with 65 sporting opportunities offered to our students! Across representative pathways, gala days, lunchtime programs and extracurricular opportunities, our students have embraced every chance to grow, connect and represent their school with pride.
Representative Success & Elite Achievement
This year, Kurri Kurri High School celebrated an impressive number of students achieving selection in Hunter Region and NSW State representative teams across a broad range of sports. Their dedication to training, commitment to school representation, and consistent display of sportsmanship highlights the depth of talent within our school.
A standout from 2025 includes our KKHS students who qualified for the NSW State Lawn Bowls Team, an outstanding individual and team achievement that reflects exceptional precision, discipline and mental focus. Our U15 Girls Rugby League Team also need to be congratulated for making the NRL 9’s Grand Final. An achievement the girls and the school community should be proud of.
Additionally, our involvement in Equestrian continued to grow, with Vanessa Vella representing KKHS at interschool competitions and demonstrating courage, skill and perseverance in a demanding discipline. We have also added Flag Football to our representative sport calendar, watch this space because we predict this sport will take off locally!
These representative honours continue to inspire younger students and strengthen Kurri’s culture of striving for excellence.
Sporting Highlights Across the School
Throughout the year, our school showcased the diversity of opportunities available to KKHS students:
- Stage 4 SPORT Bonding day at Treetops. Taking students out of their comfort zones and developing the skills of resilience and persistence that we want to see on and off the field.
- Our S.P.O.R.T Ambassador program seeing our students volunteer to officiate and coach junior teams.
- S.P.O.R.T Polo Presentation Day : We would like to extend our thanks to Ex School Captain and current Kurri Kurri Bulldogs player Reid Alchin for coming along to present the polos and sharing his Rugby League journey with our students, including some tips our students can use for future success!
- Students took part in unique sporting experiences such as attending the NSW Open Golf Championship at The Vintage, Sydney Kings Basketball game and the Australian Diamonds and Silverferns International Test match for Netball providing them with exposure to elite level professional sport.
- Our YEAH THE GIRLS lunchtime movement initiatives continued to thrive, rewarding consistent participation and school engagement — highlighted by a group excursion to the ice rink.
- Some of our S.P.O.R.T squad students completed their Rugby League Referee Accreditation and have been involved at officiating at local primary school gala day.
We would like to thank the following external providers for their valuable contributions to our S.P.O.R.T program in 2025:

Each of these moments reflects the strong emphasis we place on participation, inclusion and wellbeing in sport.
Leadership, Service & Community Contribution
A particularly proud element of 2025 was the involvement of KKHS students in officiating and supporting local primary school gala days. Acting as referees, umpires, scorers and game managers, these students demonstrated maturity, confidence and leadership while giving back to our partner primary schools. Their professionalism received glowing feedback from visiting schools and community members.
These experiences not only build leadership capacity but also strengthen the school’s connection with its broader community.
Looking Ahead
As we head into 2026, Kurri Kurri High School remains committed to using sport as a vehicle for connection, wellbeing and success. Our students continue to make us proud, and we look forward to another year of participation, progress and achievement.
