STAGE 4

CAPAL
As we reach the end of a vibrant and creative semester, the CAPAL (Creative and Performing Arts & Languages) faculty is proud to celebrate the achievements, progress, and inspiring learning happening across Years 7–12.
Music – Year 7 & 8
Our Stage 4 Music students have been hard at work this semester, forming small ensembles and stepping into the world of Rock Bands. Students learned the foundations of ensemble performance—listening, teamwork, stagecraft, and musicianship. Several of these rock ensembles will be taking the stage at this year’s Showcase, demonstrating the skills, confidence, and musicality they have gained.
Languages – Year 7 Italian
Year 7 Language students have been exploring Italian life and culture through the lens of food—one of Italy’s most iconic cultural pillars. From regional dishes to meal customs, students have developed a rich understanding of how food reflects Italian identity. To celebrate their learning, students will enjoy an exciting immersion excursion to Emilio’s Ristorante at The Junction, where they will experience a traditional two-course Italian meal. This hands-on cultural experience is sure to be a highlight of the year.
Visual Arts – Year 8
Year 8 Visual Arts students have completed their ceramic vessel unit. This project invited students to journey inward and reflect on their identity. Each student designed and sculpted a personal totem—an artwork that symbolises their own sense of self. The finished ceramic pieces show exceptional creativity, craftsmanship, and personal insight.

English
Stage 4 students have had an exciting term diving into the world of drama. They have been learning the foundations of performance, including staging, blocking, voice, and characterisation. Year 8 students have particularly enjoyed exploring The Terrible Fate of Humpty Dumpty and Honeyspot, engaging deeply with the themes and characters.
Meanwhile, Year 7 students have enthusiastically taken on dramatic excerpts from Dracula and Treasure Island, bringing classic stories to life through performance. Their growing confidence and creativity have been fantastic to see.
HSIE
Improving Liveability at KKHS
As part of their Geography unit on liveability, Year 8 students recently completed a fieldwork investigation focused on improving the school environment. Working in small groups, they used maps, observation checklists and surveys to assess how well different spaces meet students’ needs. They then analysed their findings in class to identify strengths and potential areas for enhancement, considering both environmental and social factors that contribute to a liveable school, in order to propose meaningful solutions. This hands-on experience allowed students to apply geographical inquiry skills in a meaningful and authentic way, while also contributing valuable ideas that support ongoing school improvement initiatives.
TAS
Year 7 Technology Mandatory – Food and Agriculture
This term, Year 7 students have been actively engaging in the Food and Agriculture focus area of Technology Mandatory. As part of their agricultural learning, students have spent time in the school garden preparing the beds and improving the soil in readiness for next year’s crops. Alongside this, they have developed their practical cooking skills by making a range of recipes, including zucchini fritters, mini quiches, coconut ice, and chocolate chip muffins. These hands-on experiences have helped students build confidence in the kitchen while deepening their understanding of sustainable food practices and the garden-to-plate process.
Year 7 Textiles
As part of their project assessment this semester year 7 students in textiles practiced sewing skills to construct a tote bag using a range of decorative techniques such as markers to trace a printed design or patterned fabric to create a casing. Students were able to demonstrate creativity and skills development in the textiles workshop by operating sewing machines safely and effectively to complete a finished reusable textiles product.
8TEC1 – Engineering
Year 8 engineering students participated in a paddle pop stick bridges project where they explored a range of engineering skills in mass and weight distribution as well as exploring shapes for structural strength and endurance. Students tested prototypes and researched ideas on how to create and build the best paddle pop stick bridge using hot glue as the adhesive and string as optional support.
Technology Mandatory – Year 8 Textiles
This term, Year 8 students have been exploring traditional Aboriginal weaving as part of their Technology Mandatory Textiles unit. They have spent time learning from Aunty Renee, gaining a deeper understanding of cultural practices, techniques, and the significance of weaving in Aboriginal culture. The hands-on sessions have strengthened students’ textile skills while building respect for Indigenous knowledge and traditions
