Principal's Message

Mr Alan Hope

What an incredible year it has been at Kurri Kurri High School!

As we reach the end of 2025, we can look back with pride on a year filled with energy, achievement, and unforgettable moments for our staff and students.

From the very beginning of the year, our students embraced every opportunity to learn, lead, and shine with our new focus on explicit teaching. Education Week in Term 3 was a highlight in school spirit with the relaunch of our House System. We also used this as an opportunity to launch our High Potential program to showcase student talent through engaging Year 8 elective challenge days, house events, and a range of activities that celebrated our theme of potential and possibility. This momentum continued all year as faculties delivered new teaching programs and students’ embraced explicit teaching strategies to engage a range of subjects.

Our school spirit was on full display again through major celebrations, including NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week, Harmony Day, and our ANZAC Assembly. Wellbeing Week remained a student favourite, filled with activities such as the R U OK? silent disco and charity fundraising led by our students—including our Year 10 boys’ impressive efforts for Ronald McDonald House. And our annual Biggest Morning Tea once was a great success in our local community and replicated for our staff and students as well.

It has also been a massive year for sport. Students proudly represented Kurri Kurri High in CHS competitions, knockout teams, regional carnivals, and for the first time ever, equestrian events—an exciting new chapter in our sporting story. We also celebrate some amazing student achievement in Touch Football, AFL and Rugby League and team success in Lawn Bowls, Soccer and Rugby League with our girls team making the grand final!

Across the school, student leadership was a major highlight. Our SRC, Junior AECG, and Interact teams led events, supported peers, and strengthened our school culture. We also celebrated the election of our new student leaders with our new and revised election day. We really look forward to expanding the leadership opportunities into the new year.

We also celebrated our incredible graduates with our Year 12 students finishing their schooling with a memorable final week of dress-ups, the mystery excursion, the whole-school clap-out, and a heartfelt graduation ceremony. We are looking forward to sharing our graduates success stories throughout 2026 and beyond.

As we prepare for 2026 and our transition to a new five-period day, we are filled with excitement for what lies ahead.

Wishing our students, families, and staff a joyful and safe holiday and we are all looking forward to an inspiring and successful 2026.
