Bee Humble Project Buzzing With Success!

It has been a huge term for our Bee Humble Program, and the students have truly risen to the challenge. Throughout the term they have been working hard to develop real-world business skills, using communication, teamwork and a huge dose of creativity to design their own brand and create unique labels for our Bee Humble honey products. Their enthusiasm and ideas have shaped the                                                                                       entire direction of the project.

We now have three thriving hives on site, each led by their very own queens — Beelie Eilish, Mr Hopebee and Elphabee. Students have been learning about hive care, bee behaviour and decision-making in action as they planned and prepared for their first big harvest.

The most exciting moment of the term was visiting the hives to collect our first large batches of honey. Students got hands-on in the process, working together to assess the frames, make decisions about the harvest and help collect and extract the honey. It was an incredible achievement and a fantastic celebration of everyone’s hard work.

It’s been a buzzing, productive and extremely proud moment for the program. With our first honey now collected, branding underway and plenty more learning ahead, this is only the beginning.

NEWSFLASH! Big news for honey lovers

We finally finished jarring our very own school-made honey, and it will be up for sale soon!

This team of students should be so proud of the incredible hard work they’ve put into this program. From caring for the hives to harvesting and jarring. Their dedication has truly paid off.

Literacy and Numeracy Learning

Students have been building their literacy and numeracy skills through real-world applications, including measurement, budgeting, money and time. They have been reading and following instructions, planning tasks, and communicating ideas clearly in both written and verbal activities. Students have also been developing problem-solving skills and number strategies, connecting maths and literacy to everyday scenarios such as comparing prices, reading timetables and completing multi-step tasks.

Life Skills and Relationship-Building

A strong focus of the program has been developing communication, independence and responsibility. Students have had opportunities to practise organising equipment, participating safely and working with others. They have also strengthened their ability to set goals, complete tasks and support their peers. Throughout the term, students have continued to build positive relationships with teachers, each other and PCYC staff, creating a positive and encouraging learning environment.

Movement and Physical Activity

Movement has played an exciting role in the program this term. Students have had access to a range of PCYC facilities including the gymnastics area, the skate park and the rock-climbing wall. These activities have helped students build coordination, confidence and resilience, while also developing teamwork and problem-solving skills in an energetic and engaging setting.

A Term of Growth and Success

Across both groups, students have shown enthusiasm, progress and a willingness to challenge themselves academically, physically and socially. The NCIS program continues to offer a supportive and inclusive space where students can develop real-world skills, build strong connections and enjoy authentic learning experiences. We are incredibly proud of their achievements this term and look forward to more exciting opportunities next year.

This term, students from our Young Mob Aboriginal Cultural Program have been immersed in rich learning about Aboriginal culture, social justice and history. Through a series of hands-on workshops, the World Vision Young Mob team have created an authentic and meaningful cultural experience for our Aboriginal students. Using traditional storytelling, shared knowledge, and important cultural practices, students have been developing their identity, confidence and sense of community.

A highlight for the program was a special excursion where five boys visited Baiame Cave and Minibah Learning Centre. This was an unforgettable opportunity for students to strengthen their cultural understanding, build deeper connections to Country and explore significant Aboriginal history first-hand. Students returned inspired, proud and eager to continue learning about their culture and heritage.

The Young Mob Program continues to give students the space to grow as leaders, share their voices and celebrate the importance of culture within our school community. We are proud of the incredible engagement and enthusiasm seen this term, and we look forward to the program growing even stronger next year.
