Supporting The Brotherhood of St Lawrence

BHS has teamed up with The Brotherhood of St Lawrence this year to work towards reducing waste and supporting those in need.

BHS have set up 4 bins across the school to collect and recycle cans and bottles through the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (CDS). The CDS for BHS will help clean up our school community by creating a use for used bottles and cans which can reduce waste and litter around the school.

The money made from the funds of the 10 cent bottles will be donated to a deserving community charity, The Brotherhood of St Laurence. The Brotherhood of Laurence helps support the community around us, providing services to those in need.

The Brotherhood of St Lawrence is a not for profit, social justice organistation working towards an Australia free of poverty. It provides many services such as helping people living in poverty get a job, an education, supporting refugees and migrants, providing clothes and essential items for people in need or in low income backgrounds. It revolves around volunteers, to help people in need.

The Brotherhood relies on donations by having op shops and things like the CDS scheme. All of the recyclable cans and bottles collected from BHS will be donated to the Brotherhood of St Laurence so they can keep on doing their amazing and life changing work.

Students can use the BLUE coloured bins labelled with the CDS stickers for any cans or bottles that have the 10c label. There is a circular hole on the top of the bin to remind students that these bins are ONLY for cans and bottles.

Thanks to the Junior School Captains for helping with getting this program going. They will be presenting to students throughout the year with updates on how much the school has raised.

Thanks to everyone for helping clean up our school community and for using the bins correctly.
