Letter to Family and Friends

Dear Pilgrim Families,
Welcome to the start of a new school year! I trust you had a refreshing Christmas and summer break filled with moments of joy, connection and reflection. As we step into this new chapter, I am reminded of Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:14:
Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.
This verse beautifully captures the heart of our mission as a school community: to nurture and guide our children as they grow in knowledge, character, and faith.
Returning to school after a long holiday can be an exciting but sometimes challenging transition for children. You can support your kids in the first few weeks back at school and help them to reengage with their learning. Here are four practical ways that might work for your family as you support this journey:
- Re-establish Routines - during the holidays, routines often shift. To restart the school year it is helpful to reintroduce regular bedtimes, morning routines, and meal schedules. Predictable rhythms provide a sense of security and help children feel prepared for their school days.
- Encourage Conversations About School - talk with your child about their hopes, questions, and even concerns about returning to school. Share your own positive school memories to build excitement. Reassure them that it’s okay to feel nervous and that it can take time to settle back in. Hopefully the familiar faces of friends and supportive teachers has helped to welcome them back.
- Create a Learning Space at Home - set up a designated area for homework and study that is free from distractions. Stock it with school supplies and personal touches to make it inviting. A dedicated space helps reinforce the value of learning and organization.
- Model a Positive Attitude - children often reflect our attitudes. Approach the new school year with optimism and enthusiasm. Celebrate small milestones, like their first day back or reconnecting with friends, to help them feel confident and motivated.
As a school, we are committed to partnering with you in helping your children flourish academically, socially, and spiritually. We’ll walk this journey together, inspired by the welcoming and inclusive love of Christ.
Let’s make this year one where our children can belong, explore, flourish, and serve, growing into all that God has called them to be. I look forward to reconnecting and seeing your family and sharing in this exciting year ahead.
Blessings,
Andrew Edmondson
