Thursday saw the release of the Unit 3 and 4 study results, which provided subject score information, as well as the students’ ATAR results. For a number of our students, who chose a scored pathway (meaning they received an ATAR), the result also provided an indication of whether the ATAR they earned would support their applications to further study, mostly at universities.
I am very proud of all our students who chose to sit their exams and receive an ATAR. I'm also proud of all our Year 12 students for being successful in attaining their certificate, either the VCE, VCE-VM or the VPC.
There is generally only one student who can be named as the Dux of Mount Beauty Secondary College each year. This is the student who achieves the highest ATAR result. Curiously, there has only been one time recorded in the history of the school, in 1966, when this honour was shared by 2 students.
Congratulations to the 2024 Dux, James Derrick, for his hard work and effort. The Dux and other honours will be awarded at the Presentation Event: Tuesday 17th December, from 4.30pm at the Mount Beauty Community Centre.
Students were invited to meet with Jo Macklan (Careers and Pathways) and Colleen Adams (Year 12 Student Engagement Leader) so they could celebrate with each other and seek advice if needed. Thanks to Jo and Colleen for supporting our students through what can be quite a stressful time, for the students and their families.
I just want to remind everyone that an ATAR does not define who you are as a person, your abilities or your worth. While it is nice to do well, an ATAR is a number, that is useful for gaining entry to University immediately after school. It is also worth remembering that your ATAR ranks you against every other student in Victoria who received an ATAR, so while the number might not be what you were hoping for, it is still a fantastic effort on your part.
This week marks the end of school classes for our students in Years 7 – 9. It has been pleasing to see an improvement on the attendance levels of our students over this week (compared to last year). While students know they are not likely to be assessed for the work they cover this week, all learning is valuable and this time was put to good use by exploring extension work or honing the skills for areas that needed some improvement. Next week is the beginning of the CONNECT Program for Years 7-9 and information has gone out through Compass.
At the start of this year, we introduced a Welcome BBQ, providing our families the opportunity to get together, meet the staff and strengthen our school community. I am pleased to announce that we have decided that this should be an annual event and that we will be holding the 2025 Welcome BBQ in Week 3.
Please add Wednesday the12th February to your diary.
Time: 5:00pm until 7:00pm.
