Performing Arts

IN THE CLASSROOM...

This week in Performing Arts, we have been learning about the treble clef and its corresponding musical notes. Students learnt about the purpose of the treble clef (it's the clef that represents high notes and melodies), and practiced identifying the line and space notes in the treble clef. They did so by employing mnemonic devices to find and name the notes:

Line notes: Every Good Boy Does Fine

Space notes: F A C E

By building this foundation, students can then go on and use this knowledge to sightread melodies, perform instruments and compose. In future weeks, students will use their knowledge of the treble clef notes to:

Year prep+1

  • Identify, notate and dictate notes on the treble clef

Year 2

  • Identify, notate and dictate notes on the treble clef
  • Form a simple melodic pattern of 4 notes

Year 3/4

  • Create a 4 bar melody using treble clef notes

Year 5/6

  • Create an 8 bar melody using treble clef notes
  • Compose simple chords
