Teaching and Learning Years 7-9

Thursday 25 July 2024

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

A key focus for Term 3 for Mordialloc College is Course Counselling to ensure our students receive the most up to date, relevant and one-on-one advice for selecting subjects required for their career pathway. We have a number of course counselling days dedicated to guiding students into their desired pathway or subjects:

Year 11 → Year 12 Tuesday 23rd July

Year 10 → Year 11 Friday 26th July

Year 9 → Year 10 Thursday August 1st

Course Counselling Catch - ups will be conducted on Friday 2nd August.

Teachers will leave meaningful work on Compass for cancelled classes for students on these days, and students should be completing this work outside of their course selection appointment time.

Year 9 Students Take Morrisby Testing for Future Guidance

We are excited to share that our Year 9 students recently participated in the Morrisby Testing program, a valuable tool that aids in subject selection, career planning, and course direction. This initiative is part of our commitment to providing comprehensive guidance to our students as they begin to consider their future educational and career paths.

The Morrisby Test is a well-regarded psychometric assessment that evaluates a student's strengths, interests, and potential career paths. It offers personalised insights that help students understand their unique abilities and preferences. By identifying these key factors, the Morrisby Test empowers students to make informed decisions about their future studies and career options.

The testing experience was both engaging and informative, offering our students a chance to reflect on their strengths and areas of interest. The results from the Morrisby Test provide a foundation for discussions with teachers, parents, and career advisors, facilitating a more tailored approach to subject selection for the upcoming school years.

Moreover, the insights gained from the Morrisby Test will be invaluable as our students begin to explore potential career paths and consider further education opportunities. It helps them align their academic pursuits with their long-term goals, ensuring a more focused and meaningful educational journey.

We are proud of our Year 9 students for their enthusiasm and participation in this program. We believe that the guidance and clarity provided by the Morrisby Test will be instrumental in helping them navigate the important decisions ahead. As always, our school remains committed to supporting our students in every step of their educational journey.

We encourage parents and guardians to engage with their children about their test results and future aspirations. Together, we can help our students build a bright and successful future.

For more information about the Morrisby Test and how it can support your child's future planning, please feel free to contact our school's career advisory team.

Sports News - Cross Country Results

Congratulations to our Mordialloc College Cross Country team who represented the school at the Southern Metropolitan Region Cross Country at the end of last term.

Incredible performances from our team and in particular our 17-20 Girls team finishing 1st, our 12 - 13 Boys team, finishing 2nd and 17 - 20 Boys team finishing 3rd.

We had some outstanding individual results including 12 students who qualified for the State Cross Country Championships.

Well done to all competitors!

We wish our Intermediate AFLW, Senior Netball B and our Senior Hockey students competing in the Southern Metropolitan Region finals this Thursday and next Monday and our Netballers competing at the 2024 Victorian Schools Championships Tournament next Tuesday the best of luck!

Social and Emotional Learning and Student Wellbeing

Our Year 8 students will be visiting the Kingston Youth Services facilities over the coming weeks which are brand new. The staff will talk to the students about the services that they offer and students will have some time to explore and ask questions.

Year 8 students will also take part in the SmackTalk Presentation which is delivered by the father of a victim of online abuse, the victim's name was Mac. The name SmackTalk was designed to incorporate Mac’s name and his absolute love for basketball. While smack talk is banter, sometimes referred to as trash talk, the use of the name for this charity is to help stamp out cyber bullying and sexual extortion.

If you require any further information on these activities, please contact the Year Level Co-ordinators.
