From the Principal
Dear Families,
Thank you all for a brilliant start to Term 3! It has been wonderful to watch everyone return for the second semester with such energy, enthusiasm and excitement.
I am continually amazed by our community here at Galilee. Recently it has been incredible to watch out community go above and beyond by volunteering and fundraising for our upcoming Parent Night, 'Saluti'. Funds raised from this event will go towards ensuring that we can offer our students the very best experience at school. This year we are raising funds to enhance our very successful Wellbeing Hub and enhance the technology devices we have on offer for our junior students.
2024 Silent Auction Donations
We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our local community in collecting donations and donating items for our silent auction for our upcoming gala.
Ideally we would like all donations in by next Friday 2nd August.
It could be a donation of goods, services or experiences – no donation is too little!
Money raised this year will go towards helping Galilee expand the Wellbeing Hub & buying new technology devices for our prep – year 2’s. All donations can be dropped off at the school office where there is a form to complete. Digital vouchers can be emailed to gpa@gsm.vic.edu.au.
Please reach out to your Year Level Rep with any questions. THANK YOU!
Two New Events to Add to your Calendar
In Term 3 we have lots of exciting things to look forward to. We published many of the events in a letter to families prior to the commencement of Term 3. We have two additional events to add to this calendar:
Olympic Day on Monday 29th July.
On Olympic Day students can come to school wearing Green and Gold, or their school sports uniform. Students will be involved in lots of Olympic based activities across the day.
For Olympic Day, we will have special guest Melissa Duncan coming to our school. Melissa's career is one to admire. She has represented Australia at Commonwealth Games, Oceania Championships, World Championships and most recently World Cross Country Championship.
She has also achieved and currently holds:
1 x Oceania champion
2 x Current Oceanian Record holder - 4x800m, 4x1500m
Melissa will be at Running Club, which is starting at 8:00am Monday. You don't want to miss this session! Open to anyone!
Science Week in Week 5 and Science Week Dress Day on Friday 9th August.
In Week 5 (05/08/24 - 09/08/24) we will be celebrating Science Week. Students will experience a Science Show on Tuesday the 6th and they will be involved in lots of Science based activities throughout the week. On Friday 9th August students can come to school dressed with the theme being ‘Science’. This might mean they come dressed as a planet, famous scientist, a mad scientist or something equally as creative. On Friday 9th August we will change our assembly to 9am. At this special assembly we will have the opportunity to see what students are wearing on the day.
Week 2 Year 3-6 Athletics Day
On Monday, our Year 3-6 students headed to Lakeside Stadium for our annual Galilee Athletics Carnival. Students participated in Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus, Shot-put, High Jump, 100m Sprint and Hurdles. They competed for their house colour against students in their age division. Results have been recorded and will be used to select our Galilee Athletics Team that will go to the Dendy Competition in a few weeks time.
We were so impressed with all of our students on the day. They all put their best foot forward and demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship by supporting each other through each event.
At Galilee we pride ourselves on educating the ‘whole child’, with our students being involved in a range of opportunities where they are able to explore and showcase their many talents and skills. We would like to thank Seb Greene our PE teacher and Sports Leader for organising this opportunity for our students. We would also like to thank the staff and parent volunteers who made the day possible.
Please see the resluts from the day on the School News page.
NAPLAN - early results are in
Early results are in for NAPLAN from this year and we are very excited to share them with you. Individual results went home earlier this week. Below are overviews of results, though State and National comparisons are yet to be released.
What we have seen in our results matches what we were expecting, with a few very positive surprises.
We continue to have very positive results in NAPLAN’s newly named ‘Strong’ and ‘Exceeding’, and low numbers in ‘Developing’, demonstrating that we are on the right track with our teaching and learning areas of focus and school initiatives that are leading to greater wellbeing in the classroom. Below is a snapshot of our results. When State and National comparisons are included, we will publish full results.
We would like to thank everyone within our community for a very successful start to the second semester.
I wish you and your family every blessing in the coming weeks.
