Mathematics

For Mathematics in Term 3, the Year 5/6 children will be engaging deeply with several key mathematical concepts designed to expand their skills and knowledge.

In Measurement, we will explore the intricacies of time, honing our ability to interpret elapsed time with analog and digital clocks, calculate durations, and understand the concept of time zones.

Oir children will also delve into the world of 3D shapes, learning to identify and analyze their properties, which will lay a foundation for understanding spatial relationships and volume calculations.

Alongside this, children will investigate angles.  They will learn to use a protractor, measure accurately and also classify angles  - right angles, straight angles, reflex angles, corresponding angles etc. They will have opportunities to extend their thinking with extension tasks where appropriate.

In Number, a significant focus will be on mastering the Order of Operations, ensuring children can confidently solve mathematical expressions involving multiple operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Additionally, we will tackle worded questions that incorporate all four operations, providing opportunities to apply their mathematical skills in real-world scenarios and develop problem-solving strategies.
