Physical Education

With the Olympic Games 2024 lighting up our screens, Weeden Heights have been learning more about it and participating their own mini Olympic Games at school.

In Prep and Grade 1, the students competed in their very own mini Olympic Games. With events including swimming, archery, gymnastics and 4x100 relay, all competitors gave it their all.

Well done to all Olympic champions! I can't wait to see what else the mini Olympic Games holds for you.

STEAM

3/4L were off to a wonderful start in the kitchen last week. They worked collaboratively following recipes, collecting ingredients and cleaning up. Their savoury scrolls were delicious!

French

To start Term 3, the new topic for all grades is the Paris Olympics, with various activities.

  • Last week, Grade Prep/1 did a miming game to guess a variety of sports. Afterwards, they had to find the matching French words:
  • In Grade 2, the class focus was on the meaning of medals. We discussed how they look like this year. The students found out that each medal contains a piece of the Eiffel Tower and were worried that the Tower might collapse soon if some parts were missing :-)! We were very lucky because Ms Walls brought the medals that she won when she was younger (over 50!) and we all tried them on.
  • Students in Grades 3/4 did an amazing performance at assembly on Monday. They sang 'Vois sur ton chemin' (See on your path) from the very popular French movie 'Les choristes' (The chorus). It was beautiful.
  • Finally, in Grades 5/6, students practised using  French dictionaries to find words associated with the Olympic games. They were asked to memorise a list of ten of these words and were assessed for Dojo Points. They are working hard to be able to enter the end of year final French competition!

In addition, some grades played a fun game to find out what were all the sports listed in the Olympic Games this year. They had to recognise the sports' pictograms and match them with the French words. There were 47 words to match and some were quite tricky!!! In Grade 2, I only selected the easier ones:
