Learning and Teaching

Term 3 2024

Term 2 ended with our 'Celebration of Learning' and it was great to see so many of our families present. Our students were so excited to share all that they had achieved. The learning has continued into Term 3 and our inquiry focus is on Science, with a particular focus on the Biological and Chemical Science strands.

One of our key focus this year has been to ensure that our core learning is given enough time to be taught, practised, reviewed and consolidated. This follows the latest research in how our student's learn where coherent and deliberate planning of knowledge is taught, sequenced and reviewed. In view of this we have made some important strategic decisions relating to whole school activities that will be employed across the year. This means that in Term three we will be celebrating the Olympics as a school on the 6th of August and Italian Day on the 15th of August. This also coincides with the Feast of the Assumption.  On this day our students are encouraged to dress up in colours on the Italian flag or a famous Italian Character. They will be attending Mass in the morning where our Italian school choir will be performing, participating in an Italian based incursion 'Vacanze Romane' and then engage in a buddy activity in the afternoon.

Our Olympics day will be led by KABOOM. All students will be involved in a range of tabloid sports and they are asked to wear their sports uniform on the day.

Olympic Games Extravaganza

From Sweden to South Africa students will compete in the Olympic Games. The event begins with senior students waving giant flags while teams chant loudly in search of their first gold medals of the day.

A dramatic opening ceremony takes place complete with lighting of the flame. The games begin with the students rotating though Kaboom Kid Sports activities. A live medal tally creates a competitive and fun atmosphere keeping everyone motivated to the last second as only one country goes home with the gold medal around their neck

This year Science Week and Book Week will not be celebrated at a whole school level but will certainly be highlighted in levels and individual classrooms.  Next year they will be explored more extensively and the Book Week Parade will occur on a bi-annual basis. This year's Science Week theme is Species Survival - More than just sustainability. All levels will be engaged in learning related to the Biological and Chemical strands of the Science Curriculum.  Our staff engaged this week in sequential professional learning related to Chemical Science. In Literacy the shortlisted books will be shared and explored.

We look forward to continuing to share your child's learning journey as we progress throughout the term.
