Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to the first newsletter of term 3. The term has certainly started in wintery conditions and I am sure everyone is counting down the days until Spring. Despite the cool conditions, it was wonderful to see so many of our families enjoying a warm cup of coffee before our assembly.
Congratulations to our grade 3 and 5 students who received their NAPLAN results at the beginning of the term. NAPLAN measures student achievement in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, and grammar and punctuation and is reported as 4 proficiency levels. The proficiency levels are: exceeding, strong, developing and needs additional support. NAPLAN results show that Clifton Hill Primary School had a higher percentage, in comparison to the similar schools average, of students achieving Strong or Exceeding for Year 3 and 5 Reading, Writing and Spelling. Our Year 3 and 5 Numeracy results indicate that we are performing at a similar level to the similar schools average. As a school we are currently unpacking the results so that we can identify strengths and areas for improvement in our teaching practices.
This term is action packed with events for parents and families to enjoy. Some examples are:
- Trivia Night - tickets on sale now
- 150th birthday celebrations - picnic, open day and cocktail party
- Book Week
- Grade 4 camp
Make sure you have a look at the Important Dates page in this newsletter so that you can keep your diary up to date.
We have our working bee on Sunday 18th August. We are targeting our grade 4, 5 and 6 families but the working bees are open to families from all year levels. Working bees provide us with the opportunity to complete tasks that take more than a few hands to complete. Some examples are: weeding, pruning and digging. It's a perfect opportunity to get to know other families in your year level.
Shortly we will be conducting the annual Parent/Carers Opinion Survey to seek your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. A random selection of parent/carers will be invited to complete the survey.
Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students.
We look forward to seeing you at our community events this term.
Stay warm,
Megan
