Spotlight on Students

Parliament and Civic Education Rebate (PACER)

Year 5 and 6 Students from our school undertook an education tour of the national capital (Canberra camp). Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of education programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Premier’s Debating Challenge 2024

In Round 3 of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Dundas Gold (Year 6) and Dundas Grey (Year 5) went up against Burnside Public School.

Dundas Gold were the negative team for the topic ‘that all cleaning and gardening jobs should be done by students’. Jessy, Rebecca, Jacqueline and Jack produced some extremely strong reasons that persuaded the audience why this would be a ridiculous idea! The adjudicator was very impressed with their performance and awarded them their third win of the year!

For Dundas Grey, they were the negative team for the topic ‘that parents should pay their children whenever they do chores or housework.’ Jessica, Stella, Osman and Patrick worked very well together this week and made some convincing arguments and rebuttals. It was a very close result, but the winning team was Burnside. This team is showing significant improvement every debate.

Thank you also to our chair-people, Justin and Zac and congratulations to both teams. Our last debate will be in Week 5, where they go up against each other!
