Writing: Fantasy Fiction

In Week 5, students in 5/6 were introduced to the writing genre of 'fantasy fiction'. Students looked at:

What fantasy fiction is
Key elements of fantasy fiction
Using this new information to respond to different stimulus.

Over the next few weeks, Students will be exploring this in more detail as they work to create their own fantasy fiction piece of writing. While it has only been 2 weeks so far, students have really enjoyed being about to explore their imagination and write about differe mythical creatures.

⚽️ INTER SCHOOL SPORTS GIRLS SOCCER

REGIONAL FINALS RESULTS! 🏆

We are thrilled to be sharing the incredible achievements of our girls' inter school soccer team. After winning the District Finals with a spectacular 11-1 victory, our team advanced to the Division Championship, which the soccer teams attended on Monday 29th of July. Despite it raining all day, causing muddy and rough conditions, the girls showed immense resilience and determination, winning both games and earning a spot at Regional Finals.

Thursday15th August, the girls soccer team competed at Regionals. They played four intense games, kicking the day off with a win. The girls drew in the second game however, due to the other team having a slightly higher percentage, they were declared the winner of that match. But the girls didn't let that stop them.

The Semi-Final was another hard-fought draw, which led to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Ayisha, Bonnie, Serine, Ava, and Sabah stepped up to take the penalties, and we had Nof (the best keeper in the competition) protecting our goal, we won the shootout 4-3! This victory propelled us into the Grand Final against Ivanhoe Grammar.

In the grand final, the girls gave it their all. Despite a tough knock, Fatima was felling yellow, but she showed resilience and continued playing. The game was fiercely competitive from start, and the girls played hard until the final siren. Unfortunately, the final score was 1-0 in Ivanhoe Grammar’s favour. We wish them all the best at State!

Although we didn’t come home with the championship, what stood out most was the way we rallied together and played as a true team. The girls displayed empathy, exceptional sportsmanship, and represented our school with pride both on and off the field.

Miss Ansons and Mr. Rees are extremely proud of how the girls conducted themselves throughout the day. Well done, girls—you’ve made us all very proud!

Thank you to Miss Ansons for her ongoing guidance , support and encouragement throughout the finals season pushing us to be our best and Mr Rees for always encouraging Sport at our school. And for organising the buses and medications.!

Wednesday 21st of August, students participated in a classic game known as 'Chinese Whispers,' but with a twist – we used actions instead of words!

Students formed a line, and the first student was given a simple action to perform, like tapping their head or waving their hands. That student would then quietly pass the action on to the next person, and so on, until the final student would demonstrate the action they thought had been passed down.When the action reached the last student, they performed what they saw in front of everyone. Finally, we compared it with the original action to see if it was the same, or had changed along the way.

What we discovered was that by the time the action reached the end, it looked significantly different! Actually, it was completely different! The students saw firsthand how quickly and easily information can change when passed from person to person.

This simple game helped the students understand the importance of accurate communication, especially when talking about others. It was a valuable lesson in how words can change, and how important it is to be careful and thoughtful in what we say. The main takeaway for the students was that when information is shared, it can quickly become something else entirely, leading to misunderstandings or even hurt feelings. This experience highlighted the need for clear, respectful communication, and reminded students to think twice before passing on something they’ve heard.

Thank You Miss Righele & Welcome back Mr Rajic

This week we say 'Goodbye' and 'Thank you' to Miss Righele as she goes on leave to enjoy her first pregnancy. Miss Righele has been a 5/6 teacher for two years at PVNPS. We wish her the best on her motherhood journey.

We would also like to say a big 'WELCOME BACK' to Mr Rajic who will be taking over as classroom teacher for 5/6C.
