Learning News 1/2

Years 1 and 2 have settled into their new class and routines and are dedicated to doing well in all learning areas. They have also all enjoyed catching up with, and playing with their friends after such a long break.
There have been some great ideas for our narrative writing and I have had to hold my breath in anticipation of what might happen as their creative writing unfolds. Our Week 4 Cold Write came around quickly and everyone tried to think of something interesting that was being delivered to their doorstep.
I have been impressed by what they have all remembered in their maths revision warm ups. The units we have already covered are 2D shapes and position. Directing the Beebots was a big hit and reminded us of how important giving correct directions are, including left and right. Our trick for remembering our left side is, our thumb and pointer finger make a capital L.
We’ve already been doing some drama skits in Religion and have enjoyed some special story times. All of our illustrations have been done with thought and care. Our behaviour in church for our welcoming mass and Ash Wednesday mass is to be commended. It is sometimes hard to keep still and quiet for what seems like such a long time.
We’ve been able to connect our history lessons with our art lessons producing paintings of the past and future. This week we continued with the four seasons linking our birthday to the correct season it falls in. Messy but lots of fun.
The swimming lessons and the carnival both contributed to their skills and confidence in the water. It is always fabulous to see them try their hardest even when it takes a big leap of courage to do it.
Keep reading at home and asking your child about their day and we will continue to learn and grow at school.
