Each Numeracy session at RNPS begins with a Daily Review — a short, purposeful routine designed to strengthen learning over time.
In simple terms, Daily Review is a form of retrieval practice. Rather than re-teaching something from scratch, we ask students to bring previously learned concepts back to mind. That small act of remembering is incredibly powerful. When students retrieve information from memory, they actually strengthen the neural pathways that store it. In other words, they’re making their learning “stick”.

So what does this look like in our classrooms?
Daily Review might include:
Quick oral questions
Mini whiteboard responses
Short written questions
Flash-review tasks
A brief problem-solving challenge
Importantly, the questions aren’t random. We typically follow a clear guideline:
Some questions connect to content taught last week
Some revisit learning from last term
Some reach back to last semester
And there is often a problem-solving element that encourages students to apply what they know in a slightly different way
This spacing of review is intentional. By revisiting content across different time frames, students are more likely to retain what they have learned long term — not just for a test, but for future learning. It also helps us identify misconceptions early and respond quickly.
You might hear your child say, “We’ve already done this before!” — and that’s exactly the point. Re-seeing and recalling important concepts builds confidence and fluency. When foundational knowledge is secure, students are better prepared to engage with new and more complex ideas.
Daily Review is short, sharp and focused — but its impact over time is significant. It ensures that learning in Numeracy is not a series of isolated lessons, but a carefully connected journey where knowledge is revisited, strengthened and deepened.
