From the Leadership Team

Student Leader Ceremony
It was a special afternoon today when we had the chance to present the badges to our student representatives and student captains.
It's always a proud moment for students and families. One of the other elements today that I love seeing is the proud and shared joy that other students in the audience have for their friends, buddies, and siblings.
It is never easy to put yourself forward to take on extra roles and responsibilities, it's something that a lot of people are hesitant about even into adulthood, so it is particularly special to see students put themselves forward in such a way.
As I said to the children today, it is important that these traditions start at such a young age as they are our first experiences with the democratic process and the notion of sacrificing one's time and energy in order to represent and benefit our peers. It does mean that some students will inevitably experience disappointment and frustration, but again, Primary School is a learning experience and learning to manage our personal disappointments while still celebrating the successes of our friends is a complex but critical skill for a functioning community.
Today also doubled as our first chance to get back into the Hall after extensive renovations, primarily to repair the roof but with some wonderful secondary benefits of a new bright ceiling and newly marked and polished floors.
The students were all very excited to get inside and have a look.
While it is no longer big enough for us to use regularly as our whole school assembly space, we were extremely grateful to have the space available this week after the auditorium and junior library were flooded from Tuesday's flash downpour. There are many schools that only have outdoor basketball courts for standing space as their assembly areas, so we are very lucky to have such a flexible back-up option.
Due to the flooding of the auditorium, the SMART building is accessible only in certain areas for possibly the next few weeks. The timber floors have been damaged and the electrics and ceiling in the junior library require some repairs, so only the Art room and Indonesian room are accessible at present.
While this was yet another dramatic twist in our school's facilities saga in 2026, it was yet another demonstration of the community banding together to help, with a dozen staff helping on Tuesday afternoon to mop up the damage inside and many parents and staff contributing to helping shovel up some areas of debris that emerged after the rains. Thank you to all those who contributed and offered a helping hand.
Additionally, the toilet refurbishment has begun in earnest this week with demolition in the breezeway already underway. The entrance to Team Kids is a shared space with the builders, so please be mindful when entering and exiting through the carpark gate that there may be builders moving rubble from the toilets into the skip.
The temporary toilet block is now in use by the students, too, and will remain there until the breezeway toilets open up again.
Volunteer Callout - Flourish with Fluency
Do you or a family member have some time available to help students with their learning? We are starting up some targeted support for students who will engage in 15 minute sessions to practice their literacy and/or numeracy fluency.
Volunteers will assist students one-on-one and will not need to teach, but will support students through a structured resource. We will provide training to those who volunteer, so there are no special skills or knowledge required to help out.
We are hoping to run these sessions at either 8.50am or 3pm, depending on the student and their year level or needs. Students will undertake 3 sessions per week on different days, so whatever your availability is, we are likely to have a need for it.
If you or a family member have a Working With Children Check (required) and 30 mins available at least one day a week, please fill in the short form with your availability and we will be in touch soon.
