Learning by Doing
Camps and Pathways Week 2026 gave students the opportunity to step into the world of vocational education and training, gaining practical, industry-recognised skills across a diverse and exciting range of areas. Far from passive classroom learning, these hands-on workshops placed students at the centre of the experience, building confidence, developing real-world abilities, and offering a genuine taste of what it means to work in a professional environment.
First Aid
One of the most universally valuable skills a person can have is First Aid training which equips students with the knowledge and practical techniques to respond calmly and effectively in an emergency.
From CPR to wound management, students learned that being prepared to help in a crisis is not just a professional asset which is a life skill that can make a critical difference when it matters most. Many students left this session with a newfound sense of confidence and responsibility.
Barista Coffee and Coffee Art
Students discovered the craft behind one of Australia's most beloved daily rituals. The Barista Coffee and Coffee Art workshops introduced students to the art and science of espresso, from understanding coffee origins and roasting profiles to mastering milk texturing and the techniques behind stunning latte art.
These sessions offered a window into the hospitality industry and the professional standards expected in café environments, while also being genuinely enjoyable and creative experiences in their own right.
The Professional Waiter
The hospitality industry is one of Australia's largest employers, and The Professional Waiter workshop gave students an inside look at what it takes to deliver exceptional front-of-house service.
Students developed skills in table service, customer communication, presentation, and professional conduct, qualities that are valued not only in hospitality but across virtually every customer-facing industry. This session helped students understand that hospitality is a skilled profession deserving of real respect and pride.
Food Safety Handler
Behind every great dining experience is a commitment to safety and hygiene.
The Food Safety Handler workshop gave students a thorough grounding in the principles and practices of safe food handling, from storage and preparation through to service and cleaning.
This nationally recognised certification is a practical credential that opens doors across the food and hospitality sector, and students came away with both the knowledge and the documentation to prove it.
Swinburne — Design Thinking and Entrepreneurial Skills
In partnership with Swinburne University, students were introduced to two of the most sought-after skill sets in today's rapidly changing world: design thinking and entrepreneurial skills. Through collaborative activities and real-world challenges, students learned how to approach problems creatively, think from the perspective of the end user, prototype ideas, and iterate toward better solutions.
The entrepreneurial component encouraged students to think boldly about innovation, identifying opportunities and developing the mindset needed to turn ideas into action. This session resonated strongly with students who are drawn to careers in business, technology, the creative industries, and beyond.
