2026 Swimming Carnival information - Tuesday 24 February – Boroondara Sports Complex
General Information:
The Koonung House Swimming Carnival is on Tuesday 24th February, which is Tuesday of Week 5. Students can compete in 5 individual events and 1 Relay ONLY. Novelty events are unlimited. Age groups are determined by the age students will be on the last day of the year (majority of Year 7s will be in the 12-13 year age group – 12 or under can sign up for 13 age group)e.g. born in 2013 – 13 yearborn in 2012 – 14 yearborn in 2011 – 15 yearborn in 2010 – 16 yearborn in 2009 – 17 yearborn in 2008 or earlier – 18-20 year
Any students who places first or second in their event will go through to Division competition on Monday 2nd March at Aquarena. There are 2 types of MAIN POOL EVENTS this year – Competition & Participation
- Competition = student wants to compete to go through to the next stage. Student must choose Female or Male race
- Participation = student just wants to have fun. Student will compete against anyone from their age group
Competition Events on the day include:
- 50 m Freestyle
- 50m Backstroke
- 50m Breaststroke
- 50m Butterfly
- Diving (must be feet first entry)
- 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay (4 Competitors)
What to bring:
- Bathers (swimming appropriate)
- An outfit that matches the theme, House Coloured Clothing, Full PE uniform
- Towel
- Sunscreen + Hat (these are a MUST)
- Drink bottle & recess/lunch food OR money to purchase food from the canteen.
- NO LAPTOPS, PHONES OR SPORT EQUIPMENT can be brought into the venue. Put phones in lockers before departing on the buses, and all sporting equipment (e.g. basketballs for the court hire) will be supplied by the school.

Clothing:
WEAR APPROPRIATE CLOTHING – NOTHING TOO REVEALING/SOMETHING SUNSMART (E.g. shoulders covered, covered shoes, etc.) The theme of this year is Aussie Icons. Students can dress up in this theme & enter the Best Dressed Competition OR students can wear house colours instead – points earnt for wearing house colours. Alternatively, students can wear Koonung Sport Uniform. It is not a free dress day. NO Lifeguard costumes are to be worn!
Getting to and from the Swimming Carnival
Students can go straight to Boroondara Sports Complex OR come to school and catch the bus. Consent must be given on the Compass event ‘2026 House Swimming Carnival (Bus Consent)’ if students will catch the bus to and from school on the day. If catching the bus from school, students MUST arrive at 8.40am. If going straight to the pool, students MUST arrive by 9.15am and have their name marked off the teacher in charge.
Students will be dismissed from the pool at the end of the day (2.00pm) and buses will be available if they want to come back to school.
If students need to leave early for any reason (e.g. medical appointment) sub-schools must be notified the day before the event (email, phone call) OR a parent needs to come into the event and sign their child out.
At the Venue
If students are going straight to the pool, they MUST arrive at Boroondara Sports Complex by 9.15am and have their name marked off by a teacher in charge. Students are to sit on the grassed area in your Houses (look for house flags). Events will commence at 10am.
There will be 2 running event sheets; one for the MAIN EVENTS and one for NOVELTY EVENTS. Novelty events on the day will include:

Participation:
This is a COMPULSORY school event. All students need to attend. Students will not be permitted to attend interschool sports, Ski Tour or Central Tour if they do not attend all school events (Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country).
Parent Attendance:
Parents are welcome to visit their child(ren) at the swimming carnival. Upon arrival, parents will need to enter from the side gate (eastern end of the complex) and sign themselves in with Conor Sheehan, ensuring they receive a visitors lanyard for their visit. Parents will need to sign out and return the lanyard when they leave.

The School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic representative program provides a development platform for Victoria’s emerging student athletes to participate in the annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. SSV coordinates the selection process for Team Vic teams in partnership with relevant state sporting organisations.
