Reconciliation Action Plan

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group

Koonung Secondary College is proud to introduce our 2026 Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group. This team of committed staff members leads our school’s ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships, respect and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within our community.

Our Working Group brings together passionate member who are dedicated to embedding First Nations perspectives across curriculum, school culture and community events. In 2025, the team developed a comprehensive RAP with seventeen meaningful actions designed to deepen understanding and promote reconciliation in practical, visible ways.

Celebrating Our 2025 Achievements

We are pleased to share some of the key milestones achieved last year:

  • Completed a whole-school curriculum audit to identify where First Nations perspectives are embedded and where further opportunities exist.
  • Ensured all staff undertook Cultural Understanding and Safety Training (CUST).
  • Welcomed a representative from the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation to deliver a powerful Welcome to Country at the opening of our 2025 Koonung Day celebrations.
  • Marked National Reconciliation Week with lunchtime screenings of First Nations films and television programs.
  • Celebrated NAIDOC Week by offering students the opportunity to view a First Nations film in the library.
  • Shared regular RAP updates through the school newsletter, Compass and our website.
  • Began reviewing and updating our school’s Acknowledgement of Country.
  • Installed and displayed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags in school meeting rooms.
  • Explored the history and significance of National Reconciliation Week within the Equality Collective lunchtime club.

Looking Ahead to 2026

In 2026, we are in the process of refreshing our Reconciliation Action Plan to ensure it remains responsive, impactful and aligned with our school community’s values. We warmly welcome feedback from students, families and staff as we shape the next phase of this work.

Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place: Youth & Young Adult Programs

Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place is offering two vibrant weekly programs designed to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people through creative, cultural, and wellbeing activities.

Youth Pathways Program (Ages 13–17)

  • Held every Thursday from 5:00pm–7:00pm during the school term, this program provides a safe and supportive space for young people to connect, build friendships, and take part in cultural and creative activities. The group focuses on strengthening identity, confidence, and community through shared experiences.

Young Adults Program (Ages 17–26)

  • Running fortnightly on Wednesdays from 6:00pm–8:00pm during school term, this program offers a culturally safe environment for young adults to yarn, develop life skills, explore education and employment pathways, and participate in wellbeing and on‑Country cultural activities. It’s an opportunity to grow confidence and connect with others in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Both programs take place at Each Hall, 28 Freeman Street, Ringwood, and provide valuable opportunities for community connection, learning, and cultural empowerment.
