Word of the Week ~ Almsgiving
Meaning: Almsgiving is when you give to people in need, although they are not necessarily poor. In tradition, you give money or food to poor people, but these days you can give anything to people in need. Remember though, it doesn’t mean let someone borrow your scissors in school. It is an act of kindness, and is a Catholic tradition. Here are some examples of almsgiving. We do almsgiving starting from Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent, which leads to Easter.
★ Donating to charitable organisations or helping someone with their bills
★ You can also give time; Help your family do things when they get really tired, or anytime!
★ Even just helping someone who feels sad or lonely is a form of almsgiving! Be someone's friend if they have no one to play with!

Leadership Camp
Last week, the Senior School students went to Leadership Camp at the Narrabeen Sydney Academy of Sports and Recreation Centre where they learned many things about teamwork, collaboration and resilience.
Leadership Camp 2026 was an exciting and memorable experience for the Year 5 and Year 6 students. Throughout the camp, we participated in a range of challenging and fun activities, including kayaking, abseiling, raft building, and stand-up paddleboarding.
Each activity helped us grow as leaders in different ways. Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding taught us balance, focus, and perseverance. We had to stay calm, listen carefully to instructions, and keep trying even if we felt nervous or fell in the water. Abseiling helped us build courage and confidence. It encouraged us to step outside our comfort zones and trust both ourselves and our instructors.
Raft building was especially important for developing leadership skills. We worked in teams to design and build a raft that would float. This required communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and listening to everyone’s ideas. Some people stepped up to guide the group, while others supported by sharing ideas or helping tie the knots. It showed us that leadership is not just about being in charge, but about working together and helping others succeed.
Leadership Camp 2026 helped us become more confident, responsible, and supportive of one another. It strengthened our teamwork skills and showed us that good leaders encourage, include, and inspire others. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience that helped us grow not only as students, but as leaders.
Thank you to Mr Clarke and Mrs Overton for giving up their time to accompany us on our camp, it was so much fun and the best experience ever.
